LuSh, I have seen the J River Media mentioned several times on this site and will hopefully get a chance to give it a try. I know search is your friend but IIRC H9 had a thread that talked about the drivers used also having an impact on the SQ.

DMara, I will try at some point to give a review but not only am I on a learning curve for DACs but also I am learning and struggling with describing what I hear.
For know I am spending time trying to improve my critical listening skills. I purchased a sony bdp-s470 from a member on this site for several reasons but one was to do comparisons between the PC and a dedicated CD player with someday adding SACD in the mix.

I don't think you will be disappointed. I saw that they were giving the discount now. Wish I could of gotten in on that for having to wait so long but it was worth the wait.

Given that pacific valve is doing that DAC at $350 delivered,
how do you like yours so far?

I am glad I got it.
Has been a while since I went back and listened to some music without it in line and decided to do that before I replied. As I had noticed before it is more detailed and musical than the sony bdp-s470 and as far as streaming from the computer night and day different than the on board sound card (don't want to listen with out it). I have not taken the time yet to compare a usb connection to a coaxil from the computer. Hope to get a chance to do that soon. Unfortunately I have not heard any other stand a lone DACS to say how it would stack up.

Don't know if you have come across this but has some good info.

Sounds like there in high demand and there is a wait to get them but I think it was worth it. I do see they have changed a few things. I got the NFB-3 with the dir9001. I think it now comes stock with the WM8805.

You'll be amazed at how good this dac is, at $300 shipped, based on Wolfson WM8740:

For $30 more you can get a headphone amp in it:

Very well reviewed stuff on headfi, and customer service is fantastic.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
