Comparing B&K 200.7 with Mcintosh Mc207

Does anyone have experience with both these amps ? I have Paradigm signature series S8 5.1 setup and running them with B&K 200.7 now and want to try mc207.

Haven't had those specific amps but McIntosh is leagues above B&K in quality, I love my MC7106 and dread the day I sell it. The B&K I've tried were nice for the price, a step up from Adcom for sure, but your S8's deserve some top end electronicsCurrent System:

Isn't that a bit of a apples v.oranges comparision?
Given that a used B&K 200.7 sells for $2100 and a used McIntosh MC207 are listing for $4500 +/- Maybe it would be better to compare two 200.7's vs the MC207??
Sorry I don't have the funds to have tried either, but I do like my 'little' ST-1400 II....:D -
I've owned the B&K 125.7 and I was very impressed by it. I found it to have solid bass slam, decent midrange and good upper end bloom without the harshness. The 200 should be even better. McIntosh make some great stuff, but haven't heard it personally?..... ><////(*>

I liked b&k with my Polk Lsi 15 speakers but find it dry with Paradigm speakers.

Mantis - I know we disagree on some stuff but you're spot-on here. I don't know but 2 other ppl with as much B&K experience as you and I. You're the one who turned me onto that brand in the first place. Thanks
What are your thoughts on the failure...or is that in the other thread?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

B &K, Adcom, Rotel, Parasound, Sunfire, Anthem....not the same class as McIntosh, Krell, Classe, Audio Research....not even the same class as Bryston. -

I wouldn't say that at all. McIntosh, Bryston and Krell have some duds in the historical lineup. I don't think I ever heard a Mac amp that got the low end right. The lower bass notes always seemed to be rounded some what and not sharp. Their mids and top end seemed very good, just could never come to grips with how they handle the lower bass.HT SYSTEM-

Obviously synergy plays a big part in the overall sound, but so far I'm finding the B&K pretty hard to beat. I found it to be more dynamic than Classe...... ><////(*>

I was quite happywith the sound of b&k with my Polk Lsi15 speakers but thinking of getting a better amp for my new Paradigm Signature S8.

Not Sure how to explain dry. But the lows are too tight and sometimes i feel it is not natural sound. Most of the time i am ok with the sound. -
I used a B&K 2220 on my Sig 8's v1 and did not care for the tone. I thought the speaker was a bit top heavy and piercing to my ears. I had previously used the B&K on several Polk and Pdigm speakers with a very pleasant result.
Swapping in a McIntosh 352 tamed the top, but not enough for me so I had to say the S8 v1 was not my speaker of choice and moved on.

Why are you looking at multi channel amps to power supposedly stereo speakers in 2 channel setup? If you have room for 2 channel (stereo amp) and one 5 channels amp, it's the right way to go.
Regardless of the brands and the models, the multi-channel amps are made for HT and most do not have all the nice touch of the stereo (or monobloc) amplifiers.
So, start looking for 2 channel amp and use B&K or McIntosh for the surround channels where sound quality doesn't matter a lot.
Well, the center channel in the HT room is important as well so a good 5 channel amps but I think B&K is fine for that duty.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone. :redface::biggrin: -

I definitely agree with this statement. I have a b &k ref 7250 5 channel and a B & K ref 2220 2 channel amp powering my system. When I finally got my 2 channel amp in and took my mains off of the 5 channel, what a difference in sound quality, volume, everything. I didn't think 2 amps from the same company could drive speakers differently, especially amps from the same line and that has about the same wpc, but I was wrong. The 2 channel amp just sounds better than the 5 channel amp for 2 channel listening as well as home theater. -

Your Paradigm signature deserves a better amp/ pre amp from those mid-fi gear ( Adcom, NAD, Rotel, Parasound Classic ans lastly the old B &K) .
I owned the small Paradigm S2 Version 2 and I could not be happier with the Paradigm S2 V.2 and the Bryston BP26 with the 4Bsst. Also the Bryston responded well to the Kimber Kables Silver Streaks. I would not wear an Armani suit with a $20.00 tie and $50 pair of shoes from Macy's. It's just me and my own experiment within the last so many moons.

Thanks. I have already bought Anthem D2v and i am going to get it on Saturday. Still looking for Amp. Planning of getting Mcintosh Mc-402 (2Ch) Amp for Fronts and not decided yet for center and surrounds.
