I have noticed in New Egg all the monitors are being replaced by series II line e.g CS2 by CS2 Series II, Monitor 70 by Monitor 70 Series II , all are new 2010 speakers.

But there is no mention in Official Polk Audio website?

Is New Egg manufacturing their own polk audio speakers?

Whoa those look pretty cool. Looks like a cosmetic update with the face being changed from the tacky titanium silver to piano black.

Also I noticed the tweeter is cloth instead of fabric/polymer of the original monitor series.

But the Tsi series have silk tweeter. Dont know what this cloth tweeter make difference.

I dont think this makes much of the improvement, may be a marginal one, very difficult to notice.

I think that they look pretty nice. Are these the same price as the other monitors that newegg had? Are these only available via newegg?

This is probable why they have been blowing them out recently.

I dunno. Maybe these aren't official?

The funny thing about these new monitors is that the port is still silver. Almost looks like they painted or changed the baffle, but kept the same internals?

Maybe Newegg discounted these things so heavily that it was actually hurting their bottom line and needed a refreshed model to sell at a more profitable price.

Why refresh the Monitor series when the TSi series is already in the market? It doesn't make sense for the Monitor and the TSi series to exist in the same market.

Maybe Polk modified a bunch of their old inventory and sold it to Newegg to unload the last of it.

Who knows.

I'm sure this just goes along with Polk's standard history. Transitional models using remaining old inventory, mixed with newer current inventory.

There were several versions of the SDA's that never really "officially" existed, but they certainly do exist. To name but one example, SDA 2B's with pin/blade connectors, in a SDA 2A style cabinet.

Yes, I too am curious, having loaded up on some Monitors already. Only the 30's are left for 84.99 currently.
The other curiosity ?
There are a B and C model for these.
OK, what is the new advantage, if any ?
Please, do tell.

New egg
http://promotions.newegg.com/PolkAudio/083110/index.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL071510&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL071510-_-EMC-071510-Index-_-MECH-_-DVD-EB1B
says, they are same fabric\polymer tweeter.

Looks like these are EXACT monitor series with painted front instead of the titanium look of the old monitors, specifically for the cherry ones.

So grab as much you can, the old monitor series with the rock bottom prices..

"They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with real wood veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound."

I'm not sure if this is accurate or not, but if it is, it really is a big upgrade, and would make these better than the TSi series. The real cherry wood veneer on Polk's higher end line are furniture grade IMO....the lesser finishes are cheap walmart furniture grade.

These are from
http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/recent/monitor70/

Monitor Series speakers are “modern living accessories” that make a stylish statement in either Black or Cherry wood grain finish, with Titanium faces.

wood grain finish on monitor line and wood veneer finish on series II line? what is the difference?

My guess is that Newegg was selling a huge volume of the old Monitor series and they were running out of inventory. So Polk created a "new" Monitor series to maintain that volume. They are priced above the old Monitors but below the Tsi line and not mentioned on the Polk website to keep the regular Polk dealers happy.

So wood veneer vs wood grain finish make any difference in sound quality?

I will not think of upgrading just because of only this difference!!! I doubt the tweeter is any better too (both have same fabric/polymer)

I think they look sweet but I would have a hard time buying them as they are not on the manufacturers web site. They would definitely be hard to resell. Ever seen that pair of all silver Rti's that pop up on craigslist like twice a year? Not really a fair example but you get the idea.

I wouldn't upgrade just for the new finish. If you're going to upgrade, upgrade to a higher end line or brand.

Sonically the old Monitor, the series II, and the TSi won't be too different sonically (if at all)

You can always pull everything out and manufacture any wood cabinet you want pretty economically as well.
In fact, that may be an idea for polk.
Signature Custom Series ( Oak, Mahogany, Maple, etc. )
In fact, I would volunteer my services if they pay for the wood on the test models.
I would just need desired dimensions and wood type, as well as preferred joint style.
Although, much research and testing must be done to determine appropriate sizes based on wood type desired.
I would imagine, anything of the same hardness would be the same size, and any harder or softer type woods would need to be differently sized, pending hardness comparisons and baffling and porting needs respectively.
That's really too deep for Monitor's, I believe.
My black cabinets, nobody goes near them, nor do they care what material they are.
They are simply blown away that that good of sound can be had that cheaply.
Thanks polk !
