Would a umc1 and emo amp sound better than a good receiver?
The price has NOTHING to do with how well a piece of gear performs.
Speakers that are getting that much power regardless of the price or the name on the front will almost always sound better than what smaller amount of power they were getting from a reciever.
I started out with all seperates, went to a receiver, and am now permanantly back to having seperates again. To me it sounds much better.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -

Another good thing is you dont have the clutter and expence of cables
Read where? Everything I have read says to use the analogue for SACD or CD's. It could be he was thinking that you can't pass SACD DSD except over HDMI.

I read this on projectoreviews when art bought the oppo and tested it
Art is an old audiophile who used to sell high end audio before he started the projectoreviews -

Especially after reading all the reviews, and then seeing a pic of a guy's HT setup on another forum with about $50k invested and I see he has an Oppo BPD83...has to mean something!Polk RTi A7's FrontPolk CSi A4 CenterPolk Tsi 100's SurroundOnkyo TX-RZ50:)Oppo BDP 83 (Collecting dust)MIT Terminator 3 Speaker CableMIT Terminator 2 IC's (Oppo 2 chan)Signal Cable HT TWOEpson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080Hisense 55 U8GBelkin PF 60 Power Center -

It all depends on you and what "YOU" want and what makes "YOU" happy. But I would say in a economical way to save money a good reciever is the way to go first, I have a Pio Elite SC05 and it's great and then when I could afford it I bought an amp later on. If you have the money then buy it all at once but I and most people add pieces of equipment slowly when we can afford it, need it and desire it. If the Pio is out of your budget, I would first look around on audiogon, videogon, ebay etc for a good deal on a Pio Elite first.
My main HT room is a 27x27 room over the garage and my Pio reciever can power all my speakers and fill up the room with no problem, my amp is a bit of over kill.
