MW7200's, RT55i crossovers, grille

I drove a long way to pick up a pair of RT55i under the impression that they were in "generally good" condition. They were not. The tweeters were smashed in (kids present), one grille was fubar, and there was a small chunk out of a bottom rear corner one of the cabs. Having effectively already sunk some cost in time and mileage, I made an offer which was accepted, knowing that I would just have to part them out to recoup.
I have hooked them up, and they sound good (the bass is very nice), except that the highs, of course, aren't as good as they would otherwise be. So here is a parts list for sale:
(4) MW7200 woofers - these are the shielded 6.5" woofers that fit most of the RTi series, including RT35i, RT55i, RT600i, RT800i, RTi100, RT1000i, RTi70, and RT2000i. They also fit the cs400i and csi40, FXi50, and F/x500i. I'm pretty confident about this list, but please check for your specific model. $30 each plus shipping (less than $10 to lower 48)
(2) The RT55i crossover complete assemblies, with jumpers: $40 each, free shipping.
(1) Grille. This grille is probably 8.5/10. No defect other than dust that I can tell. $15 plus shipping.
RT55i cabs: FREE for local pickup. Will be a PITA charge for shipping, but I'm willing. I'd give the cabs a 5/10. You can have the tweeters, too.

Does anybody know how easy/hard it would be to install these crossovers/woofers in my RT1000p? I know that RT55i has the extra woofer driver, but RT1000p has the built-in powered sub... so hence the question... Thanks!Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

I can measure the flange dims, but others will better be able to advise you on the 'lectronics. -

If there is really no other defect, other than dust, I might take this grille. I have one that got a snag during our move (don't ask ... but anyone that has moved knows how it can go wrong) and would prefer to replace it.
Is there any chance you could e-mail me some photos of this, including close-up of the corners/edges and logo? I know that's a lot to ask for a $15 grille, but I don't need another nearly perfect grille to replace the one I already have, especially since I will probably be selling all these speakers soon enough (when I get my LC80i ceiling models) ... thnx!
I've looked over it carefully under bright light, and it is "nearly perfect." The logo is good, but has some small silvery-white marks near the top of it, about a hair's width, and 1/4" long. They don't buff out with the steamy breath and cotton t-shirt treatment. I don't want to try anything harsher than that. Otherwise, it really is great. I can send a pic, but I doubt they'd show up properly, given the reflectivity of the logo. The marks are the same color as the logo, and I think they are under the surface - manufacturing defect?
If your snag is visible from more than 2 feet, this grille would be a significant improvement. Otherwise, leave it for someone with a seriously damaged grille. -
or are these the ones you have now... ? i would prefer the exact one.. or i would have to buy 2 to match i guess..

Soiset, do you still have the x-overs? Also how about the "badge" from the bad grill?
I have a pair of RT55i's I am restoring. PM sent.
Thanks

I have a pair of rt2000i, a cs400i and a pair of f/x300i. Looking to make space in the house...
Unless you are giving them away, please follow the Forum rules and post "Sales" in the FS section..AFTER YOU HAVE 25 POSTS. THANKS. -
I need an mw7200 woofer. Unfortunately my post count is too low to send you a PM.
-
Hey, sorry about the late response. Yes, I still have some MW7200 woofers. Will pm.
-
i would to buy mw7200 drivers if still available
thanks

I got the driver numbers wrong. Mine are MW7203 woofers, which are the 2 ohm versions of the 4 ohm 7200 drivers. The MW7203 are for speakers with dual woofers.

Hi. If you have any of the mw7203's left, can you send me a pm to discuss?

Still learning the Polk Speaker system. I've recently purchased a CS350 center. I know this is an excellent center through researching reviews along with the product. In a review I read an owner of a CS350 changed the crossover to a bi-amp able one and was overwhelmed by the performance. I'm new to this site so this is my first post. What I'm trying to know is will the RT55's bi-amped crossover will fit the CS350. Thnx.

Hmm, I don't know if that is the route I'd go. There is a lot that goes into a crossover design, and applying a crossover designed for entirely different drivers in a very different configuration is probably not a good idea.
What I would consider if I were you is active biamplification, using an active electronic crossover. The results would knock your socks off, and it really isn't that expensive if you buy quality used components. -
Thnx for the info. Right after posting I called Polk Audio Tech support and was told the same thing. Do you have any suggestions on were and how to purchase the crossover to which you recommended. Thnx.

Get one used on ebay for less than $100. You'll need rca to 1/4" adapters. Rane website has the schematics if you want to mod per the article, which isn't necessary at all. To amp the tweeter, you won't need much power at all.
You can use the ac22 to triamp a single speaker. To overcome comb-filtering complaints about the cs350, you might try using one of the interior woofers as a mid, driving freqs from 500 -3khz, and let the other three handle the freqs from 500 hz down. You'd just need an extra stereo amp, without much power at all, to drive the mid and tweeter, and use your real juice for the 3 woofers, which should still be crossed at 80 hz to a sub.
It would take some tweeking on the levels to get the output balanced, but the results should be excellent. -
That's a head full coming at a neophyte such as myself. I have three Adcom amps; 535 mkll; 535, and the 5500. Bought them from Pawn shops over the years and never had a chance to play them due to my apt. situation. The components were bought at the time because I wanted something for when I finally got my home with large basement.
Well the time is know and I felt that the Polks were the best speakers for the set-up because of their quality. So trust, I appreciate your help because as all "yung'ns", I'm still learning. If you have the time and patients could you walk me through what would be the best way to utilize the cs350 with the Rane and the components that have. I also have a digital sound processor/pre-amp that allows for 5-1 surround using 3 individual amps. At present I don't remember the name of. Everything's still packed away and my stubbornness will not allow me to pull out the components 'till I complete my Polk speakers set up.
Thnx. -

The 535 amps are definitely adequate, more than enough for mid and tweet duty. You'll also need one of dese: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=091-618
and the posts of your choice. Be sure to wire the three woofers for a load your amp can handle. This is all really simple stuff, and you've already got the most expensive components. Actively tri amp that speaker, and you will have entered a whole new world of audio performance. -
Does this mean I'll need another amp for the rears or will the crossovers configuration work with just 1 amp for the center? I remember my old DJ days when we would run speakers to amp the amp to crossover. Is this the same process?

The triamp config for the center channel that I described would take three amp channels. If you have a three channel amp dedicated to the center, you're set. The process is the same. You'll probably want to put a large cap (about 27 uF) in line with the tweeter to protect it from amp power on bump). -
Well it looks like I'm off shopping again. The Rane crossover is locked in to an auto-bid-riser on E-Bay. I'll wait 'till the bidding time is up before I mess with that again. It's the AC22B. Same as the item that you suggested just the next model. I've seen the three channel amp. Guess I've got to find it. Found a pair or RT55i in Baltimore and going to pick them up as we speak. If I'm blessed with obtaining the three channel amp I'll be "pestering" you for your knowledge on how to make it work. Thanks in advance. PEACE!!!

The B models go for a bit more, and require balanced XLR inputs and outputs. This may or may not be a problem for you, but if you are using typical home stereo gear, you will probably want the regular ac22, which is suitable for either unbalanced or balanced inputs, and has unbalanced outputs. To use with common unbalanced home gear, all you need are the 1/4" adapters, available from Parts Express and elsewhere.
You would likely get hum problems with the B model, unless you have a preamp with balanced outputs (and some do).
Make sure you get the RS-1 power supply with the crossover. They'll run about $25 separately.
