Upgrade to LSI25?

I currently have Polk Audio RTi A9's and a CSi A6 as my center. I have been thinking about upgrading to the LSI 25's. Is it worth the hassle or should I hold on to my A9's?

    If you can get a deal on the 25's buy them. They are outstanding.

    Lsi15 is easier to configure.:)
    RTi A9 is 8 ohms.
    Lsi series is 4 ohms.
    If you are upgrading to the "LSI" series needs an external amplifier, 200 watts into 8 ohms.

    If you have the proper equipment to drive the LSi25's then I think it's a fair deal.

    As already mentioned, you need a good amp to drive the LSi speakers. What equipment do you have?

    Also, make sure you listen to them before you trade. You may not like the laid back sound of the LSi series compared to the more forward RTi A9's. Even the LSi's are considered a "better" speaker, many people prefer the RTi's over them. If possible, even do a side-by-side before you decide.

    Bernal I have seen this statement of "you need an amp that does 200 watts into 8 ohms" before in regards to the LSi line. My question to you is if the LSi or 4ohms then what the amp does in 8 isn't relevant IMO. The more relevant number is what it does into 4. Please don't take it as I'm getting on you I'm not I just have seen this else were and I'm wondering why people are making that statement.
    If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother.

    My opinion is to get the 15's,put the rest of the money into an amp instead of having them combined in a speaker.More choices later if you want to make changes.

    Equipment wise I have a Yamaha RX-V1065. Amp wise I do not have a home theater amp, but I do have a Crown XLS 402 amplifier that runs 4 ohms at 450 watts max into 2 channels. The Hz and DB factor would be no issue as it runs even with the LSI's. I have had it hooked up before through my preamps to my RTI A9's. I had the RTI A9's single wired with a split switch towards the end (like a light switch) to where I could bypass the preamp and have the signal sent through the regular speaker terminals. I would run 2 channel stereo stereo through the amp, and have HT ran though the speaker terminals. This may sound stupid to a lot of you, but the amp produces clean power and sound with extremely low distortion. As for the switch. The receiver does not recognize the pre-amps unless the "light switch" is set to that specification. I have a little background in pro audio, spliced a few cables, and put together a nice 2 channel amplified system that could be ran either through the speaker terminals or the pre outs. I like to use my system as a 7.1 or 7.2 for HT and 2 channel for Music.

    That amp has nothing to do with discussion so that really didn't help your statement. The fact that I'm trying to get at is the LSi are 4ohm speakers and an amps 8ohm spec doesn't have any bearing on what its going to be into 4.


    The OP has a pro amp so he should be fine with the 4ohm speakers.


    rmknotts123 please remember max/peak watts are not as important as RMS numbers are. Peak number are very misleading. Companies like Sony will use peak number to make there crappy AVRs look like they put out as much power as a dedicated amp.

    Yes I know the max power differs from the RMS power. Rms on my crown amp is 300, which is a tad over the 250 that the LSI's need, but with the proper adjustment will be no issue.

    I do like how the home theaters in a box claim to have so much power. Phillips, sony, LG, rca, and samsung just to name a few. I went into best buy yesterday to look at a new washer and dryer and decided to stop and peak through the home theater section (which sucks I might add), and the salesman tried to sell me a LG bluray surround that was 1000 watts. I kind of laughed on the inside and went back to the washers.

    I think what bernal is trying to say is that in the sunfire the wattage output doubles everytime you halve your impedance.

    you were informed before that you can't sell in other areas. You even acknowledge this in your post. My recommendations is not to post like this again as many people will not like what you are doing.

    Also in regards to what Bernal was saying he recommended the Sunfire if you were to get the LSi25's as its a very good amp to drive them. He is correct that it is a good amp, and will preform very well for the application it would be in. Also normally it is not recommended to use a pro audio amp that is made for DJ or gigs to be used in home audio as they commonly don't mix well. Bernal made a great suggestion and would recommend looking at what he said. The sunfire will double down in power, which is a good thing for an amp to be able to do. Also it has a very low noise floor which is good for home audio as well.

    I disagree. And your previous posts in this thread show that you just don't get it. Here, let me explain...

    What Mr. Bernal stated was that the OP should look for an amp with 200 Watts minimum into 8 Ohms. This is an accepted rule of thumb for LSi speakers (sometimes 250W is stated). It is based on the fact that you need at least 400 Watts to drive the 4 Ohm LSi's. Most always you can find the 8 Ohm rating of an amp, but maybe not the 4 Ohm rating. Most good quality amps will double the Wattage from 4 to 8 Ohms. Therefore the recommendation for the 8 Ohm rating.

    I'd expect that new members of a forum looking for advice (or commenting on advice) from existing members would refrain from derogatory comments before trying to understand the advice given.
