I don't know John. That tonearm looks like it would have all kinds of resonance problems plus it would probably make a really good antena. Plus, I wonder how the mass of it matches up with most cartridges.

Here is a review of the table from TVK. Interesting that the review link at the bottom of it brings us right back here to our very own DK...

I remember Ray's write up. I still have my doubts about the tonearm. Maybe Ray will see this and chime in.

That's a great vintage table. For $40, it would have been a steal. Very heavy solid platter on a suspended subframe (like a Thorens). Works best for high compliance carts, which were the rage at the time that came out.

Is up there with a VPI or Sota? No, but its far better than most of the mid-priced competition from that era.

They are pretty rare these days and when they do come up on Ebay, they typically go for at least $400.

That tonearm reminds me of the old Garrard Zero 92. Pass.

I have attached an excerpt from the PF-800 brochure that provides a technical discussion on the tonearm. There is a section on the tonearm's mass and resonance.

During the 22 years I owned my PF-800, I used a variety of cartridges and never had a problem with any of them (Yamaha, Grado, Shure, Ortofon, Benz, Goldring, etc.).

Assuming this is not one of those "too good to be true" scenarios, this was a steal. The buyer could easily turn around and sell it for at least 10X what he paid.

I sold my PF-800 last year on Audiogon for $675. I've seen PF-800's with mechanical and cosmetic problems sell in the $300-400 range. Since parts are no longer available, some PF-800 owners will buy a second unit just to have a source of spare parts. The dust cover was a $70 part.

Well that brochure on the tonearm certainly answered my questions. It addresses and works out the usual problems with tonearm designs.
