    So how is the Oppo doing here? OK or might there be a nice high end player that can trash it? I don't know because I'm not looking and I'm not really a fan of the Oppos for whatever reasons. The fact that they do they have ''sabre tooth' technology. means they probably play all three version of ICE AGE better than any other player!

    Don't mind me...I always thought Oppo was a silly name. I'm sure they're a 'value' player in their own right.

    But that Lexicon is nothing more than an Oppo in a 3000 dollar Lexicon case, evidently?

    . . . but someone beat you to it. Maybe it wouldn't hurt for me to check out audioholics once in a while even though I don't buy into their philosophy.

    Lexicon has not hid the fact that they start with the same Platform as OPPO. Other high end companies are doing the same thing. So far, they have all mentioned the OPPO platform in their press release.

    Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

    According to the article, Lexicon has pretty much just taken an Oppo and inserted it into a different housing.

    I was probally mistaken but I was under the impression that Lexicon used the same Anchor Bay chipset but not the entire insides and added nothing of their own for improvememts. I understand that companies are somewhat limited to whats available as far as chips go but I would expect for an extra 3k to have better analog sound etc not just put an Oppo in another shell.


    Someone mentioned in another thread that other more expensive players because of the build quality of the shell made the Oppo look like a toy which for a lot of people that is important but as far as im concerned unless your putting wheels on it and plan on taking it on safari or off roading who cares?

    The player once it's in its resting place isnt going to be moved much so the outside build quality isnt as important as whats inside and certainly isnt worth an extra 3k just for a pretty face.

    I don't know, if anything, what Lexicon did. I know Ayre did a lot of work on the audio side.

    The same thing occurs with DVD players. They are complicated to build and few actually build them.

    My old Marantz DVD player had the same transport as the McIntosh MC-201. Many do share parts across lines, just like cars.

    I read this article fairly closely and hearingimpaired is telling it like it is--in the ARTICLE at least...the claim is there is just about nothing but an Oppo in there! Now if Audioholics don't know what they're talking about that's another thing....but the picks look pretty convincing.

    Oppo/Lexicon switcheroo hits mainstream media

    Within the above article, there's a clarification from THX about their involvement....
    THX worked directly with Oppo to improve video performance during the testing of the Lexicon player and the benefits made their way to the Oppo platform as well. It’s also important to note that THX is solely focused on quality and performance. Product pricing is never a driving factor for receiving THX certification.
