Emotiva XPA-3

I too enjoy my XPA-5, In my system it sounds better than my Sunfire. I haven't had any issues with the amp going into protect mode, at any volume, and it runs cool.
Lately I've been considering going the "Tube" route, but still have a little more learning to do, and am concerned that I may have trouble driving the LSi-15's -

Never have owned an Emo but I do have a question. How can you accept that an amp shuts down for no apparent reason? This seems to be a recurring defect and fail to see how anybody could accept this as a normal operating parameter.

One thing about the emo, and I've heard the same complaint from other xpa owners, is it is real finicy as to which ics are used. Some ics will throw the amp into protect mode at higher volumes. Also changing sources does the same thing. I've switched to mits and the volume issue seems to be fixed, but still goes into protest mode sometimes when changing sources.
Never experienced the IC issues or protect mode when switching sources, but I have heard about the finicky IC issue. I recall ACSubie had that issue with Ben's silver cables (that IIRC was resolved). I believe the issue was attributed to the unshielded IC acting like an AM antenna or something and triggering the protection circuitry (and it can also occur with defective ICs)--I don't have the discussion link handy, but I posted it a couple times -
I've also had my XPA-5 into the RTi-12's driven quite loud and never had it go into protect mode.____________________

Your issue could be the Amp or the AVR. You need to call Emotiva Tech support to get your issue resolved.
I haven't heard anybody have any IC issues with the inexpensive Premium Monoprice ICs, so you might want to pick up a set and see if you still have any issues.
Also I'm not sure what would happen if the switch is wrong, but make sure the switches are set to unbalanced.
Is it just a specific channel that goes into protect? or all channels? If just one channel, try switching the ICs around and see if the issue follows the IC or remains on the same amp channel.____________________

I guess I don't understand..............from a design POV why would Emo make the protection circuit so sensitive? Any robust, well built amp should have a protection circuit kick in only for a catastrophic event, like shorted speaker wires or perhaps a transient spike when one swaps I/C's while gear is powered up.
I'd really like to understand why *some* of these powerhouse amps are quick to go into protect? Perhaps just a manufacturing flaw, but while I haven't done any hard research it seems to be more than just a few isolated incidents."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. I agree. They are set too sensitive and I hope they make design changes in the future for that.
It would be nice if that were a user adjustable setting.
The last time I spoke to Lonnie, teh Emotiva Engineer, he said they can adjust the sensitivity in the shop and make them less sensitive.____________________

I am a little lost reading this thread too but I think the analogy applies to this.
Not all cars are created equal - some can go faster than others regardless of they have 4 wheels but some people think it makes no difference (just the same as some people think amplifier makes no difference in sound.)
Anyway, I must say EMO threads are always a good read and brings me chuckles and put me out of misery from yesterday.

Superjunior, I've never had this problem with two XPA-5's, a XPA-3, or a LPA-1 amp.
The receivers used include a Pioneer SC-07, VSX-1018AH, and VSX-1014TX.
I'm wondering whether it is a receiver problem.
Have you called Emotiva customer service and asked about it?

The 5 year warranty is fully transferable. You need to contact the company to find out for sure, how to go about it.
