SC07 or NAD 775?

It looks likes there are great deals on the SC-07 as of late, a couple authorized vendors have both offered them around $900 shipped, which is close to what I had paid for my Denon 2809
. I have narrowed down my speaker selection to the LSi speakers and Paradigm Signature 100's and matching centers and surrounds. I loved the warmth of the NAD with the Paradigms and that it is 4 ohm stable, which would let me run the LSi's until I can get a dedicated amp. On the same hand, I have read nothing but stellar reviews about the SC-07 and how some even considered it close enough to the performance of their seperates. I'm on the fence between the two, but the discount of the elite versus limited discounts on anything NAD makes it a tough call.

I was considering going with a NAD amp or Rotel at a later date with the Pioneer, most reviews of its performance and the price make it hard not to at least try out. Worse case scenario is that I relegate it to the in-ceiling system downstairs and sale off the Denon. lol

Hello,
Since I wrote those reviews, I have been pushing the hell out of the Sc-07 trying to get it to clip. It doesn't . If you read my review, you will see my speakers are difficult to drive. The Sc-07 has impressed me each and every time I have Installed it and since I owned it. It's a wonderful receiver as well as a killer preamp.
The NAD has had it's problems but I have yet to really get my fingers on one. We are a NAD dealer and prefer the Pioneer. We are bringing the new models to give them another chance.
Rotel does have some killer sounding Digital amps for more power. I was thinking of picking one up before I let my Dynaudio's go. I have Def Tech Mythos St's just waiting to come home with me as well as the rest of the theater package. I'm excited to change but I do love my Dynes.
I suggest trying out both and see which one fits your needs. NAD receivers have plenty of power to run your speakers but so does the Sc-07. It also has way more features and inputs. The HDMI inputs are stand alone so all other inputs are still available.I love that about it.

I too had problems with the NAD T773 but NAD replaced it with a T765 which I am very happy with. Great controlled bass, very nice clarity. It pushes my RT2000Ps effortlessly and when there are bass rich passages in movies it rattles the windows.

I have been looking for a replacement for my Yamaha 2500 that I run as a pre for a sunfire 5 channel amp. I have read all the love for the Pioneers, but I have really been considering the NAD units. Especially their ability to upgrade modules as improvements come out. I am not sure how useful the feature is, but it really talks to me as my Yamaha really does all I need - it just doesn't have HDMI. I am sure when I pull the trigger on a new "pre" (whether AVR or actual Pre-Pro) I will be missing something in a year, and the NAD is already shy of a few features I am looking for.

I for one, don't find the lack od HDMI on my avr a problem. I play a lot of video from my pc and can get the full 1080i with all the major codecs, if I desire. I have an Asus Xonar D2X soundcard that fills all the audio needs through optical out to the avr. The soundcard and its provided software allows me a lot of configurability. The video goes direct to the tv vis dvi or s-video out.
My avr, though older is a fine piece of gear which I have no intention of parting with. It has an lcd remote which is very well laid out and is also a learning remote.
I guess what I'm saying is, if your happy with the Yamaha and it fills your needs, I wouldn't replace it, just because the lack of HDMI.

I guess I should have clarified...It does all I need except for HDMI necessary features. The biggest missing feature is that optical can't carry decoded 5 channel so I can't compress our DVDs - they must stay in vob when we stream them from our movie server. -

I'm not sure what your saying when you say "I guess I should have clarified...It does all I need except for HDMI necessary features. I play divx and dvds all the time from my pc and I am getting 5 channel sound from the reciever. I must be missing something here.

NAD T765 owner here also. I never owned a Pio unit so I can't comment on them (other than they are absolutely gorgeous looking!!!). The T765 is rated at 80w per channel & that's understated to say the least. Also they are designed from the git-go to handle 4ohm speakers, & also provide a boat load of dynamic power down to a 2ohm load. Not many other AVR's are designed for that type of performance. No phony bologna ohm switches on the back of this baby...just hook up the speakers & it'll handle them.
The unit sounds absolutely spectacular in HT duty & as a preamp for my two channel listening. NAD actually designs there AVR pre section as a true preamp. That's why they have the reputation as putting "Music First" as there first & foremost priority.
They don't come with a lot of bells & whistles, useless junk in my book. As far as HDMI goes, the T765 will handle video but not audio. To me this is no big deal, when I eventually get my BD player I'll use the analog connections & that'll be fine in my book. I've never, ever ran the video thru an AVR...I don't see the point. I go straight to the TV & let it handle that part. The less connections the better.
NAD also has a great upgrade program using there newly developed plug & play modular boards. This way you can pick & choose if you care to make any upgrades. This is supposed to make the units future proof. Time will tell on this however.
I'm also running a separate two channel amp for the mains & a mono-block for the center. The T765 handles the surrounds. I already had the amps so might as well use them. I have although wanted to disconnect the amps & just let the T765 power the whole system but I haven't gotten around to that yet. I have no doubt that the T765 would perform flawlessly powering the whole shooting match. So what AVR would I recommend??? Take a guess. -
I wish I hadn't jumped the gun with my Denon, for a couple hundred more I could of picked up an SC-07 and a NAD 775 for what I paid for the SC-07. Pays to shop around I guess. I pulled the trigger on the Paradigms so the 4 ohm is not as much of a concern anymore and Mantis review of the Pioneer makes me feel comfortable in going with it. When the economics come into play staying with an SC-07 makes much more sense. I can always go with the NAD should I venture into another system with LSi's.

Anyone recommend a site or store that offers NAD with a warranty and great pricing? -

Dan,
Thanks for the feedback, I had initially set my heart on the Mythos ST and STS all around paired with the Denon 2808 I had purchased. I ran that exact setup at the demo store and was impressed at what the Mythos could do with only 110 watts. Unfortunately, I walked into another store to hear the LSi's and couldn't picture using the Mythos as much. Then I really goofed up and auditioined some Studio 100's and really blew my budget and intial plan. The 100's are en route and it looks like I will stay with an SC-07 for now and see what amp I can pick up down the road to really pair the 100's up with the right kind of power. Seems like Carvers are budget friendly, but Rotel and NAD offer some great options for more serious cash. -
Loved my sc-07 and your gonna love those 100's. But I miss my Mythos ST's
