Hardly, even if the wire did make a difference, you can't ignore all the other variables. And if you really do believe it makes a difference, it would only make sense to use the wire you are used to, so you know that it's not the new wire changing the sound. As ridiculous as that whole concept is.

It would be nice if there was a enough left over to get a pair of ICs for the demo. Otherwise, we will all be using different ICs, which will give different results. The more we can standardize the demo, the more "accurate" our opinions will be.

If there is only a few dollars left over then it might be worthwhile to buy some CDs that are supposed to be the best in regard to sound quality, and include them in the test.

Like these suggestion's alot, though along with the player, all of us are running different gear, (speaker's, receiver, amp, and the like) will be as diverse as all get out, no matter how hard we try to "level" the playing field.:(

It will be used in completely different systems, in completely different rooms, being compared to completely different players. And of course no one is going to level match the two players they are comparing. You really think wire is a concern? Right.

It was just a suggestion as to how to use any excess dinero. No need to get huffy.

That's a good point on the cables, but we're all still going to be using different components. Using cables that we're all already familiar with may give each of us a better impression of the improvements/differences that the ERC-1 is making. Adding cables that you're unfamiliar with, may alter your impressions of the CDP, since the cables could be altering your sound as well.

WilliamM2-Go crap up another thread...Bluefox was just making a suggestion. You probably could have stated your thoughts in a slightly less assholeish manner.

As far as the surplus money is concerned, I'd agree with either using it for shipping costs, or for some cables. If we wanted to use it for cables, we could start sending the cables along in the same order, after the first few demo's of the ERC-1 are complete. That way we'd all get to demo some cables, and it wouldn't interfere with anyones impressions of the ERC-1. After everyone's done demo'ing the cables, we could Karma them off, as we're doing with the Emo.

So now the question becomes, where do we find some nice ICs for $40-$50? ;)

I think the money is better used for things other than shipping... just because it would be hard to say what's "fair" for reimbursement. Much simpler to draw a name and say "here's your free _____!"

I don't see how the first post would upset anyone. It seems you actually agree with it.

I would think that the biggest concern with this demo, would be whether the player sounds the same at the end, as it did at the beggining. It's going to be shipped 15 times or more, which means it will actually be in transit for 45 days or more over the course of the demo. Have you seen the damage FedEx/Ups can cause in just 1 shipment? Otherwise I probably would have signed up myself.

That must be why my checkbook never balances. The way posts were going I thought we would a few hundred dollars left over. Anyway, it was just the engineer in me trying to normalize the test, which, as was pointed out, is impossible in this situation.

Great idea's Curt, giving credit to Bluefox also. Would love to integrate some different cable's into my setup, why not? were on on a roll here: CDP, cable's. Im game for anything audio.:D

Deposited all the checks I received today. As of RIGHT NOW, I have received $330 (including my $40 and Curt's $20 coming in the mail). I'm writing a check to Emotiva for $307.xx on Monday... but I'm still waiting to hear from lightman1 and cnh for payment.

I know cnh is on the road and difficult to get in touch with, and lightman1 was going to try to square up yesterday... so I'll wait till tomorrow at 10pm CST. At which point we'll close it up and I'll have a defined surplus of $. But it will be no more than about $60.00.

With about 60 bucks...we could pick up a pair of Signal Cable Analog II's. For a 1 meter pair, with the Club Polk discount, it would come out to around 60 bucks. There are several different AQ IC's that would fit that price range as well.

Since there are a few suggestion about cable demo. Let's try this - if we have enough surplus or just short of 60-70, I think we can try Ben's IC.

Best idea yet IMO. I've been wanting to try these for a while anyway.:)
