    Better watch what you laugh at. Before you know it, you'll be laughing at the same stuff I laugh at. That might not turn out too good.

    The guy put out 60 plus albums. Some of it I can't listen to for 5 minutes, but the stuff that I find engaging, far surpasses anything else from any other artists. That is in my opinion. I stopped wondering a long time ago as to why there was such a large unlistenable to listenable ratio. I don't care anymore.

    "I like writing large orchestral pieces, and hiring orchestras to play those pieces. That costs a lot of money. I make that money by making albums with lyrics in them (have to have lyrics to sell music in this country), that people find interesting."

    Why am I explaining this?

    You don't like what I like? I think that's wonderful. Don't break my balls about it, because I DON'T think that's wonderful.

    OK, Here is the whole dirty ugly filthy story. Many years ago I purchased a Sunfire amplifier from .... scott trigg... who George warned me about. He told me what this guy was like but in my own "everyone deserves a second chance opinion I gave him the benifit of the doubt. I totally ignored Georges warning. The deal went ok and I was happy. George has not replied to anything since then even though we had spent many hours talking back and forth previous to that. As you all know I entered in a second deal with ST in which he ripped me off for $100. Well, OK so I now know George was right. What can I say? Since then I have tried to strike up several conversations but am ignored. That is fine but being the slow learner I am I just figured it out. Whatever. That was over 4 years ago. There was nothing malicious in my actions so I would have thought that by now all would be forgotton but I guess not. Not much more to say. That is the best I can do.

    You're mistaken. I am not now, and never have, consciously ignored you. You should've asserted yourself a little more awhile ago ( I know, that's easy for ME to say, and it is), and we would've gotten here a lot sooner. You're wrong. In todays instance, by the time I logged on, you had already gotten the song you wanted, and then Troy gave you the artist. No need for me to post by the time I got there. I minimize those (posts) if you haven't noticed. But you're an old friend, and wrong in this case. Hope you didn't get too upset over this.

    Those guys didn't mention "Big Swing Face" by The Buddy Rich Big Band. Been demoing with that since the 60's. A remote live recording by Wally Heider maybe. It's a ****. IMHO the best big band ever.

    Wally Heider might be the engineer that recorded Big Swing Face, not an artist on his own.

    Another great Buddy Rich album is Mercy, Mercy. Many of us drum heads are still in awe 30 yrs later, and ther is more. By the way, whether folks like Zappa or not, in order to play with his bands, you really had to have your music reading skills down and be a real musician as he was known for his technical brilliance. His drummers were/are some of the finest in the world. Wally Heider did many live recordings by use of a "bring the studio recording equipment to the live event" ala mobile recording studio.

    Yeah, "Mercy, Mercy" is also great, and from the same time period. Even the vinyls were really worth owning, as they really got the brass right on those World Pacific Jazz recordings. No bite at all, just pure silk. Awesome recordings of an absolutely kick-**** band. Now I have to go look...OKAY, both recorded by Wally Heider. "Mercy" was recorded at Caesar's Palace, 7 July 1968. "Big" was recorded at The Chez Club in Hollywood, with no date given, but I always remembered it as closer to 1966 or 1967.

    I agree about the level of musicianship in The Mothers. Lot of stars passed through there getting their tickets punched. With that on your resume, work was easy to find. Did you ever see a Mothers show w/Ansley Dunbar on drums? Next to Buddy, he's tops with me.

    WOW! This forum talking and commenting about Zappa and nothing really ever changes about what people say about him. I have been to over thirty Zappa concerts, sometimes three on a single weekend. Every concert was completely different from the last one. No repeats, no established forum, different theme, never boring. He played music that he and the band liked. He didn't give a **** if you didn't like it or understand it. If you want to get a feeling of attending a Zappa concert try and get a VHS copy of "The Dub Room Special" made in 1983, I think. He would usually play continuously for 30 minutes going for tune to tune with no break whatever. The Zappa solos were the best. If anyone wants a Dub Room Special copy, I'll send you one for cost and then you will know. If you want to listen to one Zappa tune that always impresses try "Watermelon In An Easter Hay" from "Joe's Garage II".

    Finally:

    Maybe Zappa is the Greatful Dead of that genre...no established sets makes a good band IMO.

    Personally I can't stand Zappa, but enough people do appreciate the music to quantify a lasting existence. There are alot of bands that fall into this category, so its par for the course.

    Rock on Mothers of Invention...and stay away from from my SACD. :)
