Think "Hot Rats" if you want some Zappa. Quite the album. Of course I give all of the credit for the success of this album to Nirvana, who are responsible for all good music.

Hey, I'll take one or two decent albums, over 40 **** ones any day.

Oh, and why would I laugh at Rt55's? Your setup probably brings out the best in them!

Thanks for the laugh. Woooo! I'm dying here.

Well, what SHOULD I purchase Russ? Big opportunity to espouse just a little more knowledge son, so what do you say? What do YOU think I SHOULD like, and why? Why SHOULDN'T I like what I like? Burning questions that America DESERVES an answer to. Oh yeah, deep and meaningful answers like, "Because I don't like him" don't count.
Thanks Tour, maybe you can make unmolested recommendations somewhere else. It ain't gonna happen here.
George Grand (of the Jersey Grand's) -
I think Russ recently got a copy of Hot Rats. He must not have liked it. Next thing you know he'll be pickin' on Sun Ra and Funkadelic.Make it Funky!

-
Mister Grand, you SHOULD buy whatever blows your skirt up.
That was meant as a light-hearted jab (as usual), but if a Zappa jerkoff session is the order of the day, please carry on. I'll share my angst with someone else.
Gidrah sent me a Zappa sampling, I've given it spin a couple times, I'll do it again now. I've got zero reasons to dislike it, it just seems to me like a jazzy 70's rock opera meets Dr Demento. It's *ok* for me to not 'get it', right?
Tell me why I should like it? And answers like 'He was groundbreaking, he was so creative and talented' don't count.
Cheers

~~ I really feel strongly that it does, although the speaker is pretty forgiving and sounds pretty darn good, to my ears, with your run of the mill receiver. That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to get my hands on your SRS's, though ;>}.Oh, and why would I laugh at Rt55's? Your setup probably brings out the best in them!
Much of Zappa is too self-indulgent and bizarre for me to enjoy, but 'Hot Rats' is almost entirely vocal-less, and appears to be an honest effort at serious composition. Pieces (pieces, man that sounds pretentious) like 'Peaches en Regalia,' 'Little Umbrellas,' and 'It Must be a Camel' are without the superfluous, **** carnivalesque elements that will quickly alienate your "hey, man, I was just trying to have a good time" type of listener. Hot Rats is palatable, and frankly stunning; Peaches en Regalia is one of the coolest things I've ever heard.

I could care less whether you like the music or not there Slick, I just figured I'd ask why your face is all over a post entitled George Grand. Or maybe I'm just saying mind your own **** business. Clear enough?
Well guys, a potential discussion of something that a few of us enjoy, AIN'T GOING TO HAPPEN HERE! Thank bigmouth.

55's are an outstanding speaker. 1 problem with it is the size for a bookshelf. The 55 is a great Loud speaker.
I changed my 55's to match the 800i not because they sounded bad but just to hear the difference.
I was happy with either settup but at least I learned.

George, I didn't realize this was your private board. I was simply (lightheartedly) using my constitutional rights of free speech. You know, those rights you protect and serve for me every day?
(thank you by the way)
So far, you are the only one complaining. I stated I don't care for it, some other members are stating their likes and dislikes also (there was even some humor involved, how dare they!)
Lighten up, you are such an ogre sometimes.

NO! Like it or else! I like it, therefore......!
Actually, I just picked up a Zappa that isn't all that to me. Some I really like, some I could do without. He has a wide range of stuff. I can also understand where some people wouldn't like any of his stuff. Their loss in my opinion, but I've been at a loss for a long time.Make it Funky!

MY private board? Less than 1,000 posts here son. If someone posts "Hey Russ Gates", you can expect me not to jump in. But that's just not the case with you is it?
Keep your thanks to yourself, we both know you're full of ****.

Full of ****, possibly. However, I'd rather be full of ****, than full of myself - anyday.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
I dunno, from my limited exposure to Zappa *some* of it is good stuff but listening to an entire album is like an hour of pure whip for a couple minutes of quality stuff.
Is it just me but not once have I ever heard anyone say 'Hey, got any Zappa? Put some Zappa on!'
Of course Russ is a bigmouth, look at the size of his cranium.

Hey George,
I was in your area a few months ago. About 20 minutes away. I would have looked you up but I hadn't given any warning.
Question,
You used to talk about a few particular pieces of music that sound REALLY big and awesome on your system. I can't for the life of me find the posts. Do you remember the names? There were a few you played to demo your system with.
Thanks

Chuck,
When I got a demo of George's rig, the first few selections were the Cinci Pops/Telarc recordings of the William Tell Overature, Magnificent Seven theme and Holsts' the Planets.
I'm sure there are many more but particularly the WTO and Mag Seven were incredible.
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
In the spirit of staying with the 'not minding my own business' in this thread....
Madmax,
The WTO (uncompressed, as on the Telarc label), is a reference standard for dynamic range. This recording is what seperates the men from the boys, and where BIG reserves in the power department come into play.
Your common 'rock and roll' compressed redbook, will have around 6db, (maybe a little more) range from the softest to loudest pieces of the recording. WTO offers up TWENTY DB of range in the selection. It's easy to tell when an amp, speakers, or both are just not up to the task, once you hear it on a rig that IS.
Cheers

You're welcome George...
Just stumbled across the set when looking at one of my "Favorite Sellers" wares. Knew you were a huge fan, especially of FZ's guitar work, and thought this might be a collectable you'd like to add, if you don't already have it.More later,

For some reason, I can't find ANY of my Telarc discs at the moment.

Hey, it's my pleasure. What a steal for both you and Dor... It just wasn't in the cards for me right now (I wish it was!).
I figured the deals were sweet enough to pass along, so what the hell. I get to live vicariously through you guys (and get my cable demo on). It's the least I could do for you guys, at the minimum, it should at least bag me some good audio kharma in the future....
