My setup is panasonic 58s1 plasma with sony blue ray, fios hd dvr, a powered subwoofer, two rtia9's, and two older sony speakers. Future plans I will probably get an emo xpa-2 or 3 and other polk surrounds but as for now I have nothing to power my speakers and I don't really want to spend a ton of money. I am about to graduate with my bachelors and don't have a job so thats why I am looking at the more price sensitive stuff otherwise id buy the SC-27. Which one of these receivers is better generally? which one is better for this setup?

Scizz, welcome to Club Polk and congratulations on your upcoming graduation. The receivers that you mention can be considered as essentially the same as far as amplification goes, the slight difference in rating being insignificant. Features should determine the matter and I'd suggest that the Audyssey MultEQ room equalization system on the Marantz should give it the edge. The best price on the 5004 appears to be the factory refurb(which should be, if anything, even more reliable than a brand-new unit)from Accessories4 less for about $550. However, unless you're set on Marantz, I'd suggest the Onkyo 707 from the same source for about $100 less to be at least as good and easier on your budget.

The Pioneer Elite vsx21txh. In my opinion it's the work horse of the industry. At it's price point , it's fantastic. It's very good sounding and loaded with features including Ipod connection on the front with built in on screen gui for it. No other receiver has this at this price point.

Honestly with RTi speakers you will not need an external amp.
