Glad to hear that you got it going. Like they said, tweek the setup on the tonearm. The round spacers are probably used to raise the height of the arm to get it parallel with the platter. Set the height with a record on the platter. Don't forget to use the stylus gage to set the force. Mr. Grand will sell you some nice records. Let the fun begin.

Thanks guys, I'll work on that.

I'm getting a pretty loud hum through the speakers, so I need to get this grounding figured out. This cheap little preamp doesn't have any options for me, but I'll figure something out, then I'll tackle leveling, etc.

Try grounding it to your preamp chasis. If you have a VOM set it to the lowest restance level. With the power to your preamp OFF!, place one of the leads of the meter on a screw that holds the case together, then place the lead on a negative speaker terminal and see if you get a ZERO or near ZERO reading. If you do, talke the ground wire from the TT and attach it to the screw. Then give it a shot and see if the hum goes away.

The only reason I'm suggesting you use the VOM is to make sure the screw is ground. If it isn't and you attach the ground wire to it, it will cause no harm but you will not be grounding out the tonearm so the VOM is the best way to verify ground.

Let me know when you get settled in and these problems resolved so I can then start busting your stones on tweeking out that gem!!!:D

It was on the spindle, but everything was taped up and in bubble wrap and seemed to me to be pretty well packaged and shipped. Everything *looks* OK with it, but it the problem does in fact seem that something isn't level due to the fact that the platter scrapes the tabletop just a little bit.

As to the arm... so the table has a cue up / cue down buttons, but this arm doesn't support that? Is that the issue? I've already downloaded the manual (and he included a copy of the same one), and the manual mentions using the cueing buttons to operate the table. But I'm fine with it if this arm just doesn't support that.

Yes, I needed to adjust the spindle motor position a little bit, as I think it probably got shifted in shipping. I'm now just working on getting the cartridge and phono pre updated, and getting some new vinyl from GG.
