They still have that web/talk limitation on Verizon? I'd have thought that would be fixed by now given all the AT&T commercials pointing that out.

That will be fixed this year with the roll out of the new LTE 4G system. It will be hitting the large markets first and then rolled out to the rest of the country.

Just like every tower right now is 3G on Verizon, unlike ATT, Verizon will have every tower 4G. Not sure exactly when every tower will be 4G but it most likely be completed next year.

I guess your right, but it has never works on it's own. As I mentioned I previously had a backberry on Verizon and I would never have to "refresh" for my email.

I'm not the only one, I just did a quick search and came up with this from others with the same problem.

OMG! Something doesn't work right on an iPhone!?!?

The only issue I have with the nexus 1 is sometimes I have to turn the screen on/off as the keyboard messes up. But its a 4 month old phone and there should be coming out with another update soon.

That is a specific problem, and a specific outage in the push system, similar to RIM's Blackberry outages that happen about once a year.

I'm not defending Apple or AT&T, both have their problems, but push email works fine and is not one of them. I will often get notifications of my GMail on my phone before they even show up on the GMail webpage itself.

I agree with Bob. All my push email accounts (work, and 4 personal) works fine 24/7. They are about 10 seconds a part in delivery speed between iPhone and Mac Mail, consistently. Which brought up a second convenience, I can travel in peace, knowing I have access to any emails from all my email accounts.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I have AT&T cell service. I don't use an iPhone but my wife and daughters do...and absolutely love them. My wife just picked up a new 16GB 3G S and has no complaints. I have no problems with coverage...but I hate AT&T customer service (or lack thereof). As long as I don't have to talk to them, I'm ok.

As I previously stated, I’m speaking of the NYC metro area. I am not speaking for the rest of the country.
In fact it was widely reported a couple of months ago that sales of Iphones were temporarily suspended in New York due to AT&T’s network being overloaded. The outages for blackberry were once or twice a year, rather than a continuous systemic problems.

Iphones kind of suck because of AT&T service. Iphone could also benefit from RIM's (Blackberry) Push e-mail feature. Manually downloading e-mail sucks big-time.

The poor coverage in NYC and push notifications are two separate issues. Yes, coverage sucks, we get it. But it has nothing to do with the push infrastructure, especially when compared with RIM.

Well, if you didn't have coverage would you still get push notifications?

Exactly. Right now Sprint is the only one with anything 4g.

How are you guys getting work email on your iphone?

Does your email server at work have to be set up a certain way, or is there an app like Desktop Redirector for Blackberry that will run on your desktop and handle all that?

The one thing I had to give up when going from my Blackberry to my iPhone is getting work email on the fly...

I started looking around and got excited there for a second when I found MobileMe. I'd be perfectly willing to pay $100 a year to be able to sync my work email and calendar. However, it appears this services doesn't work when Outlook is configured to use an Exchange Server, which has gotta be like 99% of companies out there, so I'm not really sure what the point of the service is other than to make things a little more convenient.

The work email thing isn't a deal breaker for me, obviously I knew about that limitation when going to an iPhone in the first place, but I'd love to see something like the desktop redirector application that Blackberry has for an iphone.

You can sync an Exchange account to your iPhone; what exactly do you mean by "work email" beyond that?

The first 4G phone is due out this summer (see link), and it looks like it will kick some serious ****. Sprint is offering a full 30 day money back trial now, so I am going to give them a shot since service in our area is supposedly pretty good:

Unless I'm mistaken, you can only do that if the exchange server is set up for it, and I don't think ours is set up for it. I work for a very large corporation, and would guess that I'm not the only one in this situation.

I realize I could get a work phone, but I gave up my blackberry a year ago for the features of the iPhone. I also don't want to carry two phones, so I have to choose either a phone with work email or a phone with better overall features, I went with the latter.

Hmm, interesting. I thought any external access to a work's email system was through the same method, I didn't know there were different ways of doing it. My bad.

Dang, that HTC looks like a beast of a phone! Thigns certainly seem to be taking off for the Android platform.

Also, I thought it humorous that in a picture of the HTC EVO 4G, Nexus One, and iPhone 3GS, the iPhone looked the least elegant and sophisticated. My, how fast things change.

So does Verizon charge the extra $15 per month for the Microsoft Exchange data plan? ($45 / mo vs. the $30 for the unlimited plan) or is it like if your phone does microssoft exchange you just use the unlimited data plan for it?

Just curious as I'm thinking to switching to Verizon. I'm an ATT and customer now and we can use the microft exchange server there for updating everything outlook, including email. $15 per month less is almost a $400 savings over the 2 yr contract term.

I'm fairly certain you would need the $40 "corporate" data plan in order to get exchange support through Verizon. I'd call and double-check though.

I dropped into a Verizon store and asked. They said the normal / unlimited data plan wouldn't cut it. You would need the corportae email plan at $45 / month instead of $30 for the unlimted data plan.

On a side note, they are offering something pretty intersting for smart phones that support mobile hot spot. *Free* when you get a 2 yr contract and new smartphone. Price quoted was normally $40/month. Kind of an intersting offer, don't know if I would use it much.

As far as I knew, Mobile Hotspot was free for everyone now? I added it to my current phone (Palm Pre Plus) a couple days ago and it was free.
