The Nexus One should be going to Verizon soon as well. Funny how Google starts to come out on several carries and now Apple decided to follow suit.

Agreed. Did you know Verizon was actually the first carrier to be offered the iphone, but they turned it down when they couldn't reach an agreement on the monetary terms with Apple. I still think Verizon is dumb for that. Their phones are, for the most part, horrible right now. I'd switch if they didn't have the best service in my area.

They're coming out with a 4g iPhone, but I already have the 3gs AT&T and I'm very happy. Hands down the best phone on the market.

At this point it is all just speculation when it will happen...if ever. Verizon WANTS the iPhone (obviously) but Apple has a very stong relationship with ATT...which has been very good for both. All the talk has been from Verizon and Apple HAS NOT confirmed anything one way or the other. But the financial analysts (who tend have more company information than the techies) are inclined to think it may be awhile before Apple reaches beyond ATT. This artlicle just came out a few minutes ago.
NEW YORK, USA: Testing the patience of consumers and investors, Verizon Wireless is unlikely to sell an iPhone this year and may not do so until it has mostly completed a high-speed network it is just now building.

Analysts say investors may have bet too soon on a Verizon iPhone after reports surfaced last week that Apple is making a phone based on CDMA, the technology used by Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc.

Apple, which has declined to comment on this subject, is notorious for its secrecy about the iPhone, including whether it plans to offer it at all on Verizon's network. Verizon Chief Executive Ivan Seidenberg, meanwhile, said earlier this week that any decision is "Apple's call."

Indeed, Seidenberg's comments seemed designed to cool off the buzz about the phone coming to Verizon anytime soon, according analysts and investors.

Among other statements that stood out, Seidenberg said that "over time ... as the devices come to a common architecture" Verizon would "be eligible" for carrying Apple products. At the moment, Verizon's network uses a technology common in the United States but less so in other countries.

"He's trying to realistically set expectations," said Credit Suisse analyst Jonathan Chaplin, who recently predicted that the current iPhone carrier in the United States, AT&T Inc, the No. 2 U.S. mobile service, would maintain its exclusive rights for 12 to 18 more months.

"The Seidenberg comment adds a little credibility to what I've been saying," Chaplin said.

Expanding iPhone sales to Verizon, the biggest U.S. mobile operator, would give Apple much wider distribution. For its part Verizon could use the blockbuster device that has become a cultural phenomenon to win new subscribers and keep current customers.

Good. I hate Apple and AT&T anyway. I don't answer calls from any of my vendors who use AT&T because the calls ALWAYS drop. Its a waste of time. Of course, I have to answer calls from customers and have to resist telling them their iphone and AT&T sucks. Veriizon rocks!

Every carrier uses different cell technology. GSM, CDMA, PCS. It requires different hardware. It's not simply a matter of "making it available", they actually have to design it and build it. With Verizon this even includes it being aware that you can't use the web and talk at the same time :)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

They still have that web/talk limitation on Verizon? I'd have thought that would be fixed by now given all the AT&T commercials pointing that out.

I always find it amusing when people want to denigrate very successful people and their accomplishments. IE: Jobs, Gates, Lucas, etc... I don't idolize anyone/anything...but neither do I disdain the accomplishments of anyone who happens to have an idea/vision and become very successful in the implementation of it.

i am a verizon customer who has too many friends and family on verizon to switch to at&t. I am due for a new phone next month, but if we get concrete news of the iphone coming to verizon I will likely hold out for it. Hopefully the service won't be as expensive as it is on at&t

I have to disagree even being a computer user there is no denying that apple makes a more reliable product, more expensive yes but my 6 year old mac dies and wat do i do go buy a new one. I will be happy to spend the extra for a reliable phone that can do it all.

    Yaaaaaaa....good luck with that service.

I get coverage in some pretty remote areas around Tucson and AZ, the FL Panhandle and northern GA and Alabama.

Plus with 4g you CAN talk and surf at the same time.

The "more reliable" argument is specious at best. Apple is a single company, and they're compared against ALL PC manufacturers, good and bad. So sure, a budget piece of crap eMachine is going to be less reliable than a Mac, but it's not a fair comparison. A higher-end name-brand PC will easily last you as long as the equivalent Mac. Beyond that, it's down to preference.

Its pretty surprising to me that Apple/Verizon didn't make a deal at first. A few years ago when the iphone came out, Verizon had crap for phones (as far as smartphones, they did have extremely reliable voice service). Plus at the time it seemed like Verizon was developing a death grip on its user phone experience by forcing all phone from all manufacturers to use their own OS/Apps/etc. Similar to the way Apple clamps down everything it produces. I'm guessing it all came down to money. Verizon was #1 and wouldn't bend over for Apple.

Now, a few years later and I'm amazed that Verizon has opened up to Android devices and they are selling like hotcakes. I imagine Apple now will be in a worse position negotiating with Verizon since it NEEDS to get into Verizon to prevent Android from taking over the smart phone market.

Exactly. Its like saying my TI-85 calculator is "more reliable" than my HP laptop because it never gets any viruses  The more freedom you give up and more closed off a system you accept, the more "reliable" the device gets. Reliable is not the right word.

Yeah they still have that issue, although it's not something that can be "fixed". It's simply how their cell technology works...it's too damn old.

I don't like Apple or it's products, but I don't see how not getting on Verizon would cause them to "lose the market"?

There have been plenty of "contenders" to the iPhone over the past few years, but the popularity of the iPhone has been more than enough to keep it in the lead. And while Android IS becoming more popular, it's still way too fragmented to become a big "contender" in the short-run.

Apple was able to dominate the phone market despite Verizon and ATT's **** cell service. I'm fairly certain they'll be able to hold on to the market for a while longer even if they don't get onto Verizon.

I can't speak for the rest of the country but here in NYC, AT&T is the worst. I swear by apple products , but Iphones kind of suck because of AT&T service. Iphone could also benefit from RIM's (Blackberry) Push e-mail feature. Manually downloading e-mail sucks big-time. I left Verizon almost two years ago for Iphon because I wasn't happy with Verizon's offerings. The service for Verizon in the Northeast is perfect.

I wonder if apple is really coming to AT%T anytime soon? I've been hearing these reports for a couple of years now. I know tons of folks that will leave AT&T in a heartbeat. I hope the Android phones step it up so there will be some real competition across the board. Cell phone companies are a racket just like HMO's. My coworker has the Nexus Google phone. It looks sweet, but he says it still has a lot of quirks.
