So, I had a free morning and decided to be 'smart' and do an updated inventory of all my HT/audio gear for insurance purposes...start a folder with all of my receipts, start a spreadsheet to list items, serial numbers, cost, sources, etc.
Dang.....not even including media - just equipment, stands, cables, etc - I didn't realize how much I've spent!!! Into 5 digits....I'm outta control!

Yeah, I know how you feel. Going off the MSRP for my wife's DVD collection alone (insurance company said to go by MSRP), that's almost $15,000.
Add in my HT and i'm sitting at close to $20k. Add in my computers and various other electronics and i'm inching towards $25k.
And I'm only 26 with middle of the line gear!"Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. He said: "Let's face it - there's evidence to support it."Best Buy is for people who don't know any better. Magnolia is for people who don't know any better and have more money to spend.
TV: SAMSUNG UN55B7000 55" 1080p LED HDTV
HTPC: Chromecast w/ Plex Media Server. Media streamed from Media Server. -
So, how many movies would you have to go to before spending that much?Vinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
The important number to look at is how much you've spent on equipment verses how much it's worth...

We have "his & her" accounts - the bills get paid and what I have left in my 'fun account' is up to me on how to spend -same for her.
Domestic harmony reigns supreme at our house - all is well - but...is there no cure for the 'upgrade bug'???

I try never to do this. Years ago I started adding up my system and started to feel some kind of way the amount of money I had invested , then add in software costs and it gets a but nutty.
But I wouldn't have it any other way.Dan

What I would prefer to do is add up what all the audio stuff listed for retail and then I feel better knowing that I usally paid 10% to 25% of that amount it is very easy even with most items falling under the 5k range retail and a few more than that, to hit 50k or even 100k in retail value not including music and with music even if you only buy a cd a week at $15.00 it adds up quickly. I know people who have 5-10 thousand CD's literally entire rooms full, even they have lost count
I bought in the last two months probally 20k retail value of audio items but paid almost exactly 1k for everything.
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
i had a guy tell me one day if he had all the money he wasted in his life hed have a house boat on a lake and never work again. it got me thinking... if i had all the money if wasted id own the friggin lake!

That's impressive for a 'youngster'. I spent most of my money on 'books' at your age. I have a library second to none! Haven't the faintest what its worth. But everything, almost everything was bought used or on sale.

Hahah, you reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where George was first meeting Susan's parents for the first time and had to explain that the "cabin" had burned down. George compliment's Susan's father's library and her drunk mother said, "if I had a dime for every book he's read, I'd be broke!"
I know that's not you as you are a highly educated person but it just reminded me. -
For what I have in my sig. I am right around $5,600, and almost half of that was for my TV (since I got the TSi 500's for free, lol). Luckily I have a very understanding/supportive wife, lol.

Yes but . . . what would be the replacement cost? That's the kicker.
