I'm in Chicago thru Thursday for work. Absolutely love this place, and wanted to see if any polkies mre knowledgable with the area could steer me in the right direction for food, places to see, etc. I'm staying at the junction of michigan and wacker dr, so anything in that general vicinity would be nice.

Man I love this city!

Gino's East is the place for deep dish. If you had a bad day and want to argue with the wait staff, Ed DiBevick's has great food and they are right across the street. They are a Chitown landmark and have been featured on the food network...

agree Gino's is good. I will have to remember the name but there was another place closer in the downtown area that was awesome (I know vague seeing there are like 100s) but awesome food, however I was drunk so I might be bias.

I have been shepherded to Giordanos, right off of michigan. Supposedly the best deep dish spot in town. Ill have genos east as per johns recommendation tomorrow and compare. I get the feeling I won't be disappointed regardless...

It's a shame that there is no Lou Malnatis Pizza in Chicago.(Mostly in Burbs) There are a few carryouts like at 1520 N. Damen. In my opinion,Gino's and Giordano's does not even compare to Lou's. If you have a rental car it would be worth the trip.:D

Definitely won't forget ed's. Funny enough, I've had quite a few people recommend eds, as well as that lou malnattis joint. Lots of people recommending chicagos dog and kingston mines (a blues bar) as well. Sounds like I'm going to leave fat n happy!

The Tilted Kilt . It's fun and full of hot young women running around in Celtic Kilts. it's cool like Hooters but better. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff143/croatoan84/group_shot_promo_med.jpg Then there is the Elephant Pub , great food , great place , great service, did I say this place is great?
Go to the Peer , it has cool places inside especially Harry Caray's , get a Car Bomb there. Ask about it and then learn how to drink it correctly. They have a sports museum onsite and it's free.
Bubba Gump's Shrimp joint is there as well on the Peer.

Chicago is endless fun pubs and crazy nice people. I just was there about a month ago Training. We went into town every single night and had a blast.

haha we have the tilted kilt up here in WI, one even in my city! (well Stevens Point). It can be a good time, and I like the food better than hooters, and normally they have some good looking girls working, and I love the outfits hahah

There's a Lou Malnati's in Lincoln Park, up the street from where I live. I hardly ever eat deep dish pizza anymore, but order from there when I get one.

Jflail2, if you want great thin crust pizza and tasty beer, go to Piece in Wicker Park. That's probably my favorite pizza joint in the city and it's also a brewpub. For the best bars and restaurants, you need to get out of downtown and head to the neighborhoods. The Goose Island brewpub at Willow/Clybourn is a great brewpub if you're a fellow beersnob. As far as touristy things to see on a first trip, Millennium Park is neat. Get a beer at the 96th floor bar of the Hancock Building -- no charge to go up there, unlike the observation deck, but the drinks are pricey. I've lived here for the last seven years and it's become home. Have fun!

Back from the Chicago adventure; thanks for the advice all. I avoided Ed's, as I finished each day in a somewhat foul move. Going there seemed akin to smoking near gas fumes after getting feedback from locals as well. I didnt want to go to jail for assault on the wait staff...

Hit both Giordanos and Genos East. I'd have to give Giordanos a small edge in regards to deep dish pie. Hotel was VERY close to Milennium Park, so I got to check that out as well.

Hit Joe's for a good steak, and good was an understatement!!! Yesterday and today were too cold for stomping around town much, so my exposure wasn't as much as I'd have liked. Didn't bring anything winter-esque for clothing, which was a mistake.

All in all I love that town. Definitely going back for a short vacation when the Cubs are in town.
