Tool my Jag into our service department here at work for a simple oil change. All was well until the tech doing the work started the FU#@ING car with the tube from the oil gun still resting inside the valve cover!:mad: The dual overhead cams are ripped to **** and metal is all over the inside of the cylinder head on the left side.

Now it looks like my car will be flatbedded to Indianapolis on Monday for a teardown and possible replacement of the motor.

However many miles the engine had on it is going to be reset to zero at someone elses expense.

Still, I'd be pissed off about it.

Can someone explain what an "oil gun" is? I change my own oil, so all I know are quart bottles... The worst I get is some spray on the hood liner if I forget to recap the valve cover.

Think grease gun, but with a line running up to the ceiling and then to a bulk storage tank on-site for distribution throughout the garage. Same with coolant, windshield washer fluid, etc.

Yes... the dealership is going to step up. Usually I hang out with the tech when they are working on my car, but this time I was with customers and could not. The first question the GM asked was if I was back there bothering the tech when he was working on the car. When he found out the answer was no, he stepped up. If I had been "distracting" the tech it would have been on me. I get to drive a new Subaru Outback for a week or so until my car comes home.

On top of that, I sold three cars today and have 5 more scheduled next week.

Sorry to hear bro, I would definitely be pissed off. Not sure which Jag you had but the new XK and XJ look freaking sweet, perhaps you can complain and have them upgrade you for minimal costs.

I have a 2000 VandenPlas, which is the fully loaded long wheelbase car. I have gotten over my anger and am now just disappointed. The upside is that I may be able to get the timing chain guides replaced for just parts cost and save all that labor as they are called upon to be replaced at the mileage I am at.

We will see what happens on Monday.

Let me guess, the tech was a very young and inexperienced person? When I worked for Nissan, the oil boys were all very young. No slam on youth at all since we were all young once!

glad to hear the dealership is stepping up. A good friend used to manage a quick oil change place and had one of his tech's do this to a Nissan Z. the tech was so inept and untrainable he became the 1st person my friend ever had to fire. glad your business is hopping!

My son saw a tech start up a bone dry Lexus when he worked at the
dealership. The guy was an old hand, not a young kid. They filled it
back up and hurried it out the door.
That's one reason I tend to always do my own.

The tip was beaten up pretty good and the ball valve in the tip was damaged, but other than that it was ok.

I wil get the final verdict on what will happen with it in the morning.

Good luck. I sat in my car at an "instant oil change" location once and the lead tech asked me to start the car when they were "done" so he could check the level. Fortunately I had paid attention and had noticed they had not yet added any oil!
