"Dedicated" sub cable vs. "Standard" RCA IC

Hey guys,

I think I just scored a nice deal on a Velo SPL-1200R, for $426 shipped! Got it yesterday and it looks pretty much new. Just a couple of very minor scuffs on the bottom. The rest is shiny-new!

Man, this things rocks my house at a volume level of 45, more than my MiniVee did at a level of 80. (I'm in serious need of calibration :-P )

Anyway, I bought some MIT AVT3's for my mains and center. Since the surrounds don't get too much action, I was going to go with something a little less costly, so I went to Audiogon and put in a bid for the Metallurgy GA-2 and won a set for $32. ADITIONALLY, I entered the Morrow Audio weekly drawing over there at Audiogon AND I won that also!

So now I have some "auditioning" to do. But I have ONE extra MIT AVT3 left over. I hooked it up to the sub for now, but my question is: will a "dedicated" sub cable be significantly better? I was thinking of going with the Audioquest Sub-X or Sub-1 (Sub-3 is out of my price range).

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I wouldn't think you'd notice much (if any) improvement over the MIT, but if you want to add a sub cable, here's another option: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=AQBTIISUB%203 I use this cable and I've been happy with it.

    Nice, thanx!!

I will seriously consider this. Would you happen to know what the Audioquest equivalent is? Based on the "original" price, looks like a Sub-1 (?)

I guess what my question is: is a "dedicated" sub made in some special way to carry low frequencies? (more so than the "standard" cable?)

I'm not sure what's "special" about a dedicated sub cable.

Can anyone else add a little "technical" info pro/con a subwoofer cable?

How does the marketing Juggernaut Monster compare to this cable?

I did purchase Monster's "Subwoofer 600sw Ultra High Performance Cable" for my installation because I got it discounted, I'm just curious how it stacks up.

    Opinions anyone?

leroyjr1 says he's using monster cable for his sub, and he "loves it". Sounds like it's a quality cable. Not sure if it's the same one you're using.

He has almost 5,000 posts so I would assume he's knowledgeable.

Cable threads are a dime a dozen these days with opinions both ways. IMHO, if it sounds good to you, who cares who makes it. I have a 25' Rocketfish Sub cable, and it does the job very well.

The only caveat I have is - if it's a long cable and it's poorly shielded, you might get some hum.

Thanx for the help and advice guys.

I'll hang on to the AVT3 for now, 'til I have $300 burning a hole in my pocket. LOL!

Your Avt will do all you ask of it. No need to upgrade from there.

The quality most important to me in a sub cable is low frequency noise rejection. Like the emf you would get from power (think 60 Hz hum). Low freq signal propagation too, but alot of times that quality will be in the wire lay.
