Mirage gets Klipsched!

I saw Vanns was deep-discounting the OMD-15 and remembered that I also saw the OMD-28 discounted sharply awhile back, so I thought I'd check out their website and see if they had replacements for them yet. Nope! Nothing at all. Apparently the OS3-FS is now the flagship.

It would seem that Klipsch LLC is going to do the same thing to Mirage that it did to Energy, which is to lop off the "audiophile" models from the top of the line. (At Energy, they pulled the plug on the Veritas models.)

I know it's all a business in the end, but it's still sad to see. I'm sure many of you remember the Mirage M series...

I've never liked Klipsch. Mirage was great. I guess if you buy the better-sounding competition and kill the high line, you think your stuff sounds better? Anyway, what a bummer.

That's horrible news. I just got the OMD15/OMDC1/OMD5 setup from Vanns for my parents recently. They sound absolutely great for the price (and look beautiful as well). Very similar in value and quality that I got out of my Energy RC setup. It's a shame that these companies have to suffer at the hands of Klipsch. The only good part about it is that the consumer gets the benefit of these closeout prices. Still, the future doesn't look good for any speaker company under Klipsch (Mirage, Energy, Athena, Jamo).

Clearly they bought these companies to weed out stronger competition.

Buy up, kill off the competition. Just look what Fender has done with Jackson guitars!

Klipsch also bought Mondial Design (Acurus/Aragon) a few years back. Have you seen any products from them recently?:(

I don't think klipsch intends to kill off their speaker company aquisitions, though. They seem to be focusing them towards specific market demographics. Energy towards young people; Mirage towards the "lifestyle" segment...or so it appears to me. That said, I think Athena is going, or has gone bye-bye already. I guess that leaves klipsch as the "high-performance" marque.

I know they purchased them awhile back but what did they do to them? It seems they still have their top end guitars in the SL1 SL2 SL3.

I'm pretty sure it goes deeper than just eleminating the competition.
More than one of these companies was closing their doors due to the economy and were bought out as a result of their diminished value.
At least there's still Customer Support and a few original parts laying around the inventory stock room to be had.
It's a shame that some fine audio companies can't survive. It's happened before with Harmon Intl being the last major corporation that comes to mind when they bought up a lot of struggling audio companies.
R.I.P. to those companies going under and now gone as we knew them.

Acurus and Aragon was killed by Klipsch and now the "brand name" is owned by a couple of guys. Their plan is to resurrect the line (I believe just Aragon) with high end offerings on a smaller scale trying to get back to the glory days. Not sure they will be able to pull it off.

Mirage, Paradigm, Energy and Athena used to be owned by a Canadian conglomerate, but now Klipsch owns these brands as well as Jamo. That is never a good thing. I sure all brands have suffered.

Are you sure about Paradigm? Nothing I could find on the web, including Paradigm's own site, associates them with Klipsch in any way.

You're right my bad............Energy and Paradigm used to be so closely related when owned by the Canadian company I inadvertently grouped them with the other's Klipsch bought.

Paradigm wasn't included in the sale to Klipsch.

Fender has been releasing lots of cheap Asian made guitars with the Jackson/Charvel name on them. It's a subtle, passive aggressive way to make people feel like any Jackson they pick up is going to be a cheap guitar, but it unfortunately works on most consumers. Fortunately Fender does still allow the Jackson custom shop to exist, so it's a little better than Klipsch.

I am very thankful for that. I've always had a respect for Paradigm, and think they make some great speakers at affordable prices.

This will continue to happen as independent dealers find it hard to exist and compete with online retailers and big box stores.
