CLEANING OUT YOUR EARS!!! :D

Not even joking. If you've never experienced the overwhelming sensation of having your ears cleaned out really well, you owe it to yourself. I have a friend who almost passed out after having his ears cleaned out; he said he could not believe the difference it made in his hearing and he almost hit the ground. It wasn't that dramatic for me, but it made a huge difference in my hearing, especially for my perception of higher frequencies. Get ready to get sick of those sl2000's if you like'em now!!! :)

I did mine be soaking Murina (hydrogen peroxide solution) in my ear for several minutes with my head cocked sideways to keep it in, and then blasting out the wax with a syringe-looking water-shooter; you could use one of those blue rubber ball things too. The results in the sink spoke for themselves

Seriously though, give it a whirl; it may just blow your mind!!!

I get the wax blown out of my ears every year. It is interesting on how the audio changes from before and after.

I clean my ears out with Debrox about once a month or so. I've had chronic ear infections for basically my entire life though...and the doctor has always recommended Debrox to me. Works very well...

    packetjones,

when I said "you owe it to yourself" I wasn't kidding. I never thought that my hearing was in any way impaired, I'm a musician, and when I cleaned'em out for the first time it was seriously like night and day with the treble. You might as well try it; it can't hurt (unless you are too aggressive with the plunger ;))

Something I have wanted to try for a long time as I definitely have experienced some roll off and I am sure other things. Are these common safe practices...as I did some research on candling before and it is quite controversial.

I know people that have done this procedure successfully for years and I know some that have damaged their ears. Sorry, I am not an ENT, therefore I get a professional to do it.

PS - I don't pull my own teeth either. :D

    janmike,

thanks for bringing up the safety issue. I have never done the 'candle burning' technique as mentioned above, so I can't vouche for or against it. As for the technique I mentioned, I do advise to be careful, but I am not a doctor and for all you know I may be a raving luny, so take your own ears into your own hands, but If you're careful I think you'll be alright. Here's the point:

If you can afford it: let a doctor do it!!!

Just out of curiosity, what would that procedure cost in the USA. It's like $10 here if you do not have insurance. I actually asked last year what the fee was for folks with no coverage.

Is this something any GP does or is this something one would go to a hearing centre for?

I had mine cleaned out by my doctor last Wednesday (it was time for my annual checkup). And as usual, big plugs of wax came out of my ears. Yes, it does make a difference.

I had a serious sinus infection years ago. The Doc...lifted out a wad of impacted wax from my left ear and turned to me and said "you should hear a lot better out of that ear now"....NOT--it made ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE....so either I'm going deaf or I've got super hearing? Wax has 'never' affected my hearing. Why, I don't know!

Not wise....forget about your ears...you're now getting close to the age where a physical a year is almost a requirement!

I flush my ears with warm water every morning in the shower. Fill with warm water, wait a minute, tip head to pour out, repeat. YMMV but I used to have wax plugs removed every year by a physician and now I never have any wax buildup. And yes, when I used to have the wax plugs, it made a big difference in my hearing when they were removed.

I was going to start this with "This may sound silly." Then it occured to me that I'm responding to a thread about ear wax removal as a cost effective audio upgrade and that statement would be redundant.

I dig in my labs ear with a heroin spoon, roll little balls of dog ear wax, and stragetically implant them in my ears. I get SDA walking around the room.

I remember how odd it was to actually hear my t-shirt sliding on my shoulder as I walked to the car. It was weird ....then my wife shut the car door , BOOM ! OUCH!
The doctor had played hell getting the plug and finally gave up , gave me a small syringe and some wax softener and told me to use some hydrogen peroxide to help loosen it , "Don't be afraid of blasting it hard , it will feel weird , but it won't damage it".
When it finally broke free , it looked like my ear ralphed in the sink .... nasty.
Unbelieveable amounts of junk ..... but damn could I hear ! :)

I used to get ear infections several times a year, which was costing me lots of money. The last time, the doctor put this wick thing in my ear and told me to leave it in for the week... and it didn't seem to do anything but make it hurt worse. After 3 days, I got desperate and hosed it out with warm water and a baby syringe... and as soon as all that crap came out of my ear, the pain was gone. Now, I hose out my ears every once in a while and haven't had a single ear infection since.

I clean my ears with Q-tips very carefully each time I shower however, never put any solution in your ear. Let the doctor do it. I know this because I've have an ear problem since childbirth and the doctors have always told me that ear infections are very easy to produce by putting anything, including a finger in your ear.

I'm able to use the Q-tips cause the doc had trained me on how to do it without causing any damage.

Well I have to admit that no one should stick anything in their ear without prior doctor approval and instruction, you only have one set of ears and dont get a second chance if you screw up and damage something ;)

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I keep my ears pretty clean, but after all these years in a manufacturing enviroment, the damage is already done. I wear ear plugs now for certain things, but with the Tinnitus, I will never have the "Golden" ear.

I gas up my ears on a regular basis and add Rain-X as a precaution just in case. When times get hard on hearing, I blast a jet of air from the compressor straight into them at a rate of 230psi. That clears everything out including a percentage of my brain.....but I can hear well. :D

i had my doc remove the wax from my ears one time.. best thing i have ever done. my hearing was so clear aftewards. i mean, i could hear things farther, clearer, cleaner, and the treble i was missing was back.

I have tried it several times at home with the same procedure.... and i could not duplicate the deep wax cleaning the doctor did.

the stuff/wax that comes out is gross-a-rama though

I wish I could deep clean my waxy ears out the same way my doc did.. i would do it once a month if I could.

the rush of warm water flushing through your ear is very odd feeling though. but damn, I could hear a lot better.. and never realized how much i was missing.. just due to wax. which we all have.
