Hey guys, I'm looking for a pair of Polk Monitor 7's or 10's in the central Florida area. If it is far away and you are willing to ship, that is ok too depending on the cost. If they need work, that is ok, could be a fun project :) It would be a nice finish to my vintage rig. I have monitor 5jr's right now, and they just aren't big enough to fill up my living room and take advantage of the 200wpc Sansui. Thanks!

LOL either shipping or paying for your gas would kill me. I saw these and got excited until I saw their location; they look to be in excellent shape. Coming down to Florida for vacation? Where to?

Honey do lists are never fun...You've been to Florida multiple times and have never been to the main tourism city in the state? lol You should come sometime, there's lots to do here if you know where to go.

Jesus, seriously? I'll wait on SDA's for that. Too bad he's on crack, because my family is in west palm and I could have had them hold the speaks for me till I could pick them up.

Hmm, thanks. I'll shoot an email but I doubt it would be as much of a deal when shipping gets factored in.

Hey I just found these on craigslist in FL for $100. Not sure if you're still looking or this is exactly what you want but for $100 or best these look pretty good. Little bit of a drive but might be worth it.

Less than $33 for a pair of 10's! That is a good deal in my book....an awesome deal!

I am kind of anxious to see what you think of them when you get all hooked up.

Oh, and thanks, but I didn't post the link, someone else did...I just informed you of the post.

Congrats! I can only dream of a deal like that close to me.

I am pretty anxious myself. It's an hour and a half drive and I'm on narcotics so I can't get them until my girlfriend can take me on Thursday, but I can't wait! I'll definitely post pics and how I feel about them. I liked my 5's, so I can only imagine how much I'll like these. Great to know if anything is damaged or gets damaged, Polk still sells replacement parts. And thanks :) , I got very lucky with this one. I'm sure the only reason it got so few bids was because its local pick up and Winter Haven is a very quiet area of FL.

Well there goes all of my excitement. I drive 3.5 hours to pick them up/drive them home, almost got into 2 accidents on the way mind you, just to hook them up with a smile on my face and watch the smile melt away when i turn on the Sansui just to find that 3 of the 4 woofers are seized. At least, I think thats the issue, but the woofers simply won't move, even when you try to "push them in" and of course no sound comes out. Awesome. I cannot afford 3 new drivers right now so now i can just stare at them collect dust for a while.

MW-6503. Is this the same as the MW-6500 I see in the for sale section? I also can't seem to get the woofer disconnected from the wires on the M10's. Should the wire connectors just slide off or am i missing something?

My Monitor 5's have the MW-6502, so there goes my plans of just gutting them for at least 2 of the 3 drivers. Didn't really want to anyways, still like the 5's.

Just how easy is it to lock up these woofers? Could I have done it on the drive home? I had to emergency stop once but the speakers were a tight fit in my trunk and couldn't move much, if at all...seems kinda crazy that woofers in such high-end speakers (at the time) were so easily damaged.

    Sorry to hear that...
Those monitor 10's with the peerless tweeters IS what got me rehooked but good on this, my second audio journey! great sounding speaker when they play.
..Maybe a polkie will have some of the drivers you need and you'll be able to bring them back to life at an affordable cost. I think they have a distinct sound that's hard to describe except..Overall a great speaker! Get 1 woofer at a time if need be.

Sorry you had to drive so darn far just to find that out. You have now learned , no matter what they say, when you get to a speaker sale, you HAVE to push on all drivers gently and put your ear up to the tweeters if they will play them. No exemption rule applies to at least pushing on woofers.

I'm seeing more and more of this woofer freezing problem with all makes so maybe it's an age and corrosion problem if they aren't played much. I don't know realy.

If those cabinets are in great shape, save em. I have a rough cabinet set with great speakers so maybe one day soon someone else will part out theirs like mine should be or I should reveneer mine like another just did to his! they were FINE refurb's.!

Those 10's are what put Polk on the map and secured his fame even before SDA technologie.!!! They're awsome,Realy!

The drivers CAN and DO lock up that easily. I bought a perfect working pair less than 10 miles from me. I checked them out thoroughly before I bought the. Played them out, felt for rubbing, etc. By the time I got them home two had seized up. I've had a woofer lock up while playing.
The glue just dries up and the magnets let go.
It happens all the time. It's why I JB weld them now when I get them.

Thanks! I never for a second thought of getting rid of them. Fortunately for me, Russ (Lightman) had a set of replacement drivers that he sold to me, they were shipped this morning. Hell, they even have the Peerless tweets, which my M10's currently do not have, so hey I guess I could look on the bright side and say this incident is providing me with an upgrade lol  And since the drivers are down, I'm going to Mortite the drivers because when I push on the passive on the speaker w/the one functional woofer, the woofer comes back rather quickly. I am just really nervous because I'm afraid they will arrive here with some of the drivers already locked up and if that happens, well, I don't have money to buy a 2nd set of replacements so will be S.O.L. for a while.

Wow, that's crazy; I guess I'm not the only one. I hope my replacements get here ok. Could you give me a run-down on how to properly JB Weld the magnets? I will be moving out of my apartment in about 5 months, and I don't want them locking during the move.

I got my drivers in today and have a couple questions. First off, is there a specific way I'm supposed to disconnect the speaker from the internal wires? I'm having trouble shaking these things free. Anyways, the newer drivers are labeled +/- but the original drivers have the red spot where the black wire is connected. What polarity is the red spot lead/ what polarity are the white/black internal wires?
