Will polk warrenty my tsi speakers that i accidntly over drove with my 5007 onkyo? one night, too loud, i guess, wrecked most of them, its a 6.1 system. Melted the dust covers and fried some tweeters as well as a few cross overs. i feel really bad about this as i have been a polk cust. since hight school but that was 15 years ago. i have had several other polks but but never a such a good A/V recever i think its the recevers fault. too much power?

Likely not enough power. Too much power doesn't fry speakers. Too much distortion/clipping does.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

The warranty covers manufacturers defects, or failure under normal use, not abuse. You got those voicecoils pretty hot if you actually melted a dustcap.

this is the first time polks have ever taken a crap on me. maybe a design flaw? i have played them loud before but never with a good A/V recever. and i tell u what they just melted. my old denon never did this. should i have expected distortion or clipping, maybe i couldnt hear it, before the dammage was done. But anyways i dont want to argue abuse, i want to know if i got the rti As if they would fare better? BTW proud past owner of RTA11s and a fine pair of S-10s

We don't have enough information to tell you if the RTi series would fair better, unfortunately.

Your old Denon may have had a more capable amp section. What model was it?

The 5007 only has 145wpc, 2-channels driven. That number will drop pretty significantly when more channels are being driven.

Sorry to hear that you ruined a few speaks but take responsibility my man, Sticky fingers on the volume knob. Everything has it's limits, and you just found yours the hard way. Polk doesn't cover abuse, but hopefully your situation will help others avoid a costly end result.

Not really....the 5007 has a toroidal transformer weighs 54 lbs or more....draws over 11.5 amps from the wall socket and does not drop much at all in all channels driven! It can compete power wise with any Denon except maybe the 5000 level series.

I've NEVER heard of anyone frying a set of TSIs with a flagship Onkyo, Man!

What in God's name were you doing? You must have had that 5007 at MAXIMUM volume! You don't do that with any AVR. And don't think that having an AVR that's twice the price of the 5007 is going to save you from clipping....any amp WILL distort if you take it up ALL THE WAY!

Those TSI TOWERS can handle A LOT MORE POWER than that Onkyo can put out--did you fry TSI-100s? OR the 200s....bookshelves?

Sorry about your misfortune but 'prudence' is your word for the day!

Very well said C, I agree 100%. I have a set of TSi 500's that I have put through their paces, and have had no problems with them at all. Had them hooked up to an amp at the Seattle mini meet and they did great as well. They are very efficent speakers, and can handle their fair share of power.
