Is it acceptable to use to fronts instead on a center?

I ask because it looks like I will have to send in my cs1 for repairs. I have monitor 50 fronts. Would it be acceptable/recommended to go down to no center for the several weeks it will take it get repaired? I listen to movies loud, and I don't want at all to risk messing up the more expensive speakers that ARE working.
Your thoughts please would be great!
If I do this, I also need to know how to make my receiver not use the center channel? I have a Sony dg820
I know a couple of you recommended doing this in another thread of mine, but I just wanted some verification that this was a good idea.

They should do a descent job as a phantom center. You will need to set this up in your AVR however.
You might be surprised even. -
That receiver may not have an explicit option for phantom center. Looking in the Trouble shooting guide if you were to hook up 4 speakers it may actually throw an error code letting you know that one of the front speakers is missing.
You simply need to run the Auto EQ and see if the receiver will play ball or not.
Hope this helps. -
it's ok , you'll be fine until your center comes back. So why is it broken?
My thoughts is TURN IT DOWN A BIT MAN , SAVE YOUR HEARING AND YOUR SPEAKERS!!!!Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
it was broken when it came last fall. Due to a sick grandfather I haven't been able to sort it out until now. It is either the crossover, or the drivers that are shot. It is just a very distorted, dry, and blatty sound with no vocal range when people talk. It is fine for watching tv, you really notice it when you are watching blu ray movies.
