Is it acceptable to use to fronts instead on a center?

I ask because it looks like I will have to send in my cs1 for repairs. I have monitor 50 fronts. Would it be acceptable/recommended to go down to no center for the several weeks it will take it get repaired? I listen to movies loud, and I don't want at all to risk messing up the more expensive speakers that ARE working.

Your thoughts please would be great!

I watch a lot of tv in my HT system, some channels don't have use the front speaker but use the L/R speakers only. :( Pisses me off some, but I guess your question is ok. ;)

That's what I am trying to find out, is if it will be ok on the speakers. I play stuff pretty loud sometimes and don't want to damage those side speakers since they weren't I am guessing built for center channel use.

If I do this, I also need to know how to make my receiver not use the center channel? I have a Sony dg820

I sure if you setup the HT so the center speaker is not connected (since it's on the store, and not in your house) it will use the L/R speaker vs the center speaker when it's use. :)

I just gotta know why do you prefer a phantom center to a real center channel? What are your benefits to and negatives with having one?

If someone could find out if the sony dg820 has a phantom center and how to turn it on that would be great. I am scrambling to find out myself as I type this heh.

I would just run the auto calibration program (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration) and it should be able to detect that there is no center hooked and will compensate for it. If not, look into the menu and see if you can disable it manually. There is no "Pantom center" option that I know of.

It looks like in the manual you can select 2/4.1 speaker configuration to select no center. This is all speakers but the center.

I guess that's what I need. I have no idea if that affects digital sound or how it will work, but it looks like I will have to give it a shot.

That is another option as well, but if you have the mic. I would strongly suggest you run the auto calibration program and let it do it's thing. It will setup many more things than just doing it manually and will probably get you better results. Just my $.02.
