No extras, no special features, no trailers...nothing but the best A/V possible. This is awesome!

Love the movie but what made it more special was the 3D.

While I agree there, the picture quality in 2-D and the audio are both top-notch (that's said a lot, but I think it's really true here).

Generally I get most of my movies from...lets just say "friends" for free. There are occasionally releases that I feel require a payment for though. Both Transformers, BoB, Serenity, Firefly, and several others. This is most definitely something i'm going to spend the money on.

This is definitely a rent first for me. Wasn't a big fan of the movie but thought the 3D was pretty. Superbit should be pretty damn cool. If it knocks my socks off I might buy.

It's pretty interesting to get some inside info on how the language was created. I thought it was Navaho or something Native American...just how it sounded to me.

I'm eager to see this. I never made it to the theater to see it in 3d. Wish I did.

Superbit maximized space for A/V thus no extras, special features and so on. The Blu-ray disc will be doing the same, maximizing all that space for A/V only. The PQ and SQ on this Blu-ray should be the best we will see to date of any film on so far. Should look nearly 3D.

However, I thought BR had more than enough space for video and audio.

As stellar as a current top tier blu-ray can look and sound, there is usually a lot of room for improvement given blu-ray's maximum specs. For example, with lossless audio they're usually released in 16-bit to 24-bit 48khz. TrueHD and DTS-HD MA can go as high as 24-bit 96khz and uncompressed LPCM can go as high as 24-bit 192khz IIRC. There are some blu-ray concert and blu-ray music only disks which use the higher audio sampling rates. I also seem to remember the movie Akira uses a high sample rate audio track. But there's definitely a lot of room for higher quality video and audio in the average blu-ray movie.

I'm curious to see where they go with the superbit avatar.

I am pretty sure the disc being discussed here is maxed out data wise just to contain the movie. What Amazon offers is a two disc set, meaning the the movie is on one and all of the extras are on the 2nd disc.

That is pretty amazing when the BR disc storage capacity technology is considered.

    I haven't seen this yet.

Is it another one of those "all special effects and no storyline" kinda movies? Or is it actually good(aside from special effects)? Just curious.

Maybe this should be one of the 5 or so movies I'll end up buying over the course of the next year...lol

Nope. This release has ZERO extras. The 2nd disc is just the DVD... also with no extras.

In other words, be prepared for the special edition with extras later... then the 3-D version... etc.

Yes, it is... but having said that, the effects are pretty fantastic. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the movie. It just wasn't anything unique to anyone who has seen Pocahontas or Dances With Wolves. Still, the effects... FANTASTIC.

Then what is the 2nd disc about?:confused::confused::confused:

Hopefully, it is not about some sort of advertisement. It gets kind of old when the distributor locks out the primary movie menu to gives previews/trailers, etc, etc first. I watch them on my own time, but I very do not like to have them shoved down my throat just to being able to get to main movie menu.

I bought the disc on that fact alone that I wanted to see the movie. The trailers get watched when I decide and, maybe, rented or bought. I decide when to see check them out for decision.

Yes, with no extra features, that's what they're going for. But what I'm curious about is the final specs of the disk. What they'll actually do with the video and audio to take up all the space.
