Audio Cuts-out with Comcast Cable Box/Receiver

I know that there are others who have had this problem, but what's the best and most effective remedy? My rig is not the most extreme but it's sad to me that I spent over 2K on a new tv, receiver, speaker system, and Blu Ray player only to find that when I hook my comcast hd cable box through my receiver and then to the tv via hdmi, the audio cuts in and out. It does it more on some channels than others, but nevertheless is annoying. I still have to use my tv's speakers and can't use the surround sound!

Yamaha Rx V465
Comcast HD Cable Box
Panasonic 42S1

I noticed that there is a usb jack both on the cable box as well as the tv. Are there any updates that I could install to correct this problem?

i have a similar problem with my comcast DVR. the signal will pixelate on occasion... and the signal will go to black for about 2 seconds.. the audio and video both drop out.

I plan to call comcast this week and find out what's going on. I pay way to much for cable tv to put up with that problem.

For danger boy, it just sounds like you're getting a weak signal to your box, hence the cutouts.

But just audio over HDMI? Sounds like a faulty box to me. You're rentin gthe thing, just try swapping it out for another one. I've done that with various equipment from Comcast and they've never said anything.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I've had similar issues as above. The remedy that has always worked for me was to unplug the box for a few minutes then plug it back in.

+1 with Time Warner. I had the signal strength tested by the field tech and he said it has a strong signal. Must be the box or on Time Warner's end.

I have the same problem with DirectTv HD DVR. The sound cuts out for a split second every now and then just on HD channels. I don't know what the problem is, I just deal with it.
    It's all in the detail.

Guys, I had the same problem with DTV DVR in the past. It has to do with signal locking, and in my case, it was compounded by B&K weak optical input, hence it did that.

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77093&highlight=optical+coaxial

It's pretty cheap signal amplifier, so what you want to do is to use the optical out from your DVR and use coax input to your receivers. Who knows it might work better for audio.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I had some issues with my old box and have noticed an improvement since I upgraded to the newest box.
