Well we finally learned our lesson with these guys. My wife was on a little trip with a friend of hers and stopped in there to pick up a Wii. Mainly wanted one for the workout games.....

Not to bore you with all the details but they pretty much treated her like crap when she was picking it up. She was trying to get a component cable for it too and told her the graphics looked like crap no matter what...and pretty much told her she didn't know what she was talking about. Not a good thing to treat my wife that way....they paid for it dearly and lost the sale and future sales...

Dang it, whats wrong with those people? I don't get it....

Sad sign of the times. Been brewing for a long while. The uneducated, ignorant, disrespectful kids that have been in gestation for the past 20 years in the US, suddenly make up for a good percentage of todays work force. I see it right at my little Best Buy here. No manners, no class, shoddy appearance, and no knowledge regarding product to speak of. Your beef not isolated, its nationwide. I hate BB. I'll go in there to window shop for something, but there is no way that they're getting my business. I work in landscaping and I decided to go in there one day after a good, dirty day of work to look at some of their TV's and was treated like a non-existant piece of $hit, so I was done at that point. I have money to spend and an interest in much of what they sell, but I wasn't pleased by the way I was treated because I looked like I probably didn't make enough money to be worth their time.

On another note, don't buy the component cable for the Wii from them either because you can get it cheap on Amazon and it will make it look somewhat better.

Just my .02 but if you are going into say a BB to buy something haven't you already done your research and know what you're getting? You should not rely on their salespeople nor anyone elses to get you where you need to go.

Do your homework, find out where the best price is and go get it.

So, as I said. Know what you want and go get it. The salesperson is secondary in this equation. Who gives a flying crap if they know what they're talking about. You do. You shouldn't even need to deal with them unless they have to go drag one down from the top shelf for you.

They don't make a commission so you are at your own risk as far as who you deal with at BB anyway.

I disagree with you completely. I don't care who they are, but it is their job to be courteous and informed about what they are saying and doing. Why are they even there if they don't know $hit?

I see it all the time everywhere not only BB or other big stores hard to blame the store for the kids behavior, at the wages offered that is pretty much all their going to attract are kids.

On a more serious note the same ones you see being idiots today will someday be our future leaders CEO's and President of the USA. :D

The Best Buy in my area has about 10 sales persons per customer. Every 10 steps I have a new sales person pestering me. I usually try to research the product online and get in and out as fast as I can. Then maybe I will only have to deal with couple of them.

I'm still fairly young, but I was raised to do a good job at whatever I was doing. I don't care what you're being paid, you are being paid to do a job, so you should do it as well as you possibly can. I hate it when people justify not doing their job because they don't get paid well enough to do a good job. Not saying that you condone these actions Snow, but just saying that it's a terrible attitude that a lof of today's youths possess.

They're making $8/hr in a big box retail store. Most are great but you will run across a few that are totally worthless. If I'm not getting paid to know what all the product lines are in my store but to just point the customer in the direction of the cash register then that is what I'm going to do. If you're expecting to get your arse kissed at a BB then you are in for a rude awakening.

Was it wrong that she was treated poorly? Yes. What are you expecting from a poorly paid person who is just paid to be there?

I believe it's a combination of factors that play into it, by offering close to minimum wage you are only going to attract young people who havent been raised properly IE no manners and and most likely havent been trained at all and if so trained by another kid who was trained by another kid how to do it all wrong, and some retired people looking to supplement their retirement or midle aged people with no education and a handfull of disabled folks.

The retired folks are your best bet of those options. And no I dont condone bad behavior no matter what your being paid it is just at those wages your not going to get much in the way of manners or intelligence from the folks working these type of jobs. It isnt like in the old days when kids were taught respect and manners by parents who would beat the crap out of them until they got it, and when you went to the gas station or grocery store they addressed you as sir or mam.

    FOR EXAMPLE

I went to Wally World the other day to return an item and was met by what I will refer to as a 2 x 4 she was about 2 feet tall by 4 feet wide and had the face of an agitated hobbit/gremlin combo with the intelligence of neither, and the attitude of both, She then procceded to try and scan my item with a hand held scanner which didnt want to work properly she shut it off fired it back up then went through the ten step proccess without luck, of course by this time 50 other people have managed to escape her clutches which piss her off further and she is waving her lil hands in the air and trying to stop them which of course they pay no attention to other than to look away and walk faster in the oppsite direction :p

after 20 mins and 3 more attempts and failures of going through this elaborate ritual, I tell her let me find a manager. I give the item to her to hold while I go look for help because I am afraid I will never get out of the store if I dont. When I do track one down and bring him back it takes him 3 button pushes and 5 secs to fix the problem. He then tells her take a break because she is obviously upset and about to blow a gasket or a valve or something.

But it is what it is and I am not mad at Wal Mart or the lady either one, I just know that if I ever have an item to return I will do a lil recon and scout out who's working that door before I bring it in :D

The best buy near me just started to carry projectors recently. Granted not high end ones but some none the less. However none are set up and the display models are just fakes, they are not real projectors just models basiclly. I asked a kid the other day if they will ever set up the projectors to show them off ect and all he states is "why would they need to do that? they're a projector and they'll all look the same" well I didn't even bother and just said ok and walked away.

15 minutes later I show my girlfriend something in the store that I thought was funny and I see the same kid. He is now talking to a customer telling the customer that their Polks they have in the store (TSI300s) are better sounding and are a better speaker than the guy was looking at possibly getting (Def Tech Mythos STS I believe). The guy states he had heard them at a best buy somewhere else and wanted to know if they carried them at our store and the kid said no but the Polks were equal to them. I wanted to slap the kid and tell the guy that if he wanted def tech to get them because the polks at the store did not compare at all. I just hate how uneducated they are, but yet are allowed to sell things that people really want help on, but then wonder why things never sound, or look the same as what they are expecting.

Well beaten might be a bad choice of words but certainly we were taught manners and respect. It's not all the parents fault either part of the problem is the lack of interpersonal skills due to things like texting on their cellphones versus actually talking to another human and locked in their rooms playing video games versus actually getting outside of their room and doing something with another human. Sad if you ask me. If it keeps up someday our species will only have two thumbs because we have forgotten how to use our other digits :p:D

    REGARDS SNOW

Terrific post Snow. You summed it all up right here. Sadly the "Mom and Pop's" are a thing of the past.:( Sad reality check for the consumer nowadays shopping for any retail. But your right, "The Trickle Down Effect" at its finest pertaining to the work force, via the Government and the current state of the economy, we will somehow have to endure.

And what I am saying is that Snow is correct. But if you are going into one of these stores expecting what you would get from a privately owned business then you're an idiot. Yes they should be nicer and they are getting paid to do their jobs but aren't you paying yourself as a consumer? Isn't it YOUR responsibility to know what you are buying?

Know what you want. Know the price is that you should pay and get it. Take the salesperson and the bitching about their lack of knowledge and CS out of the equation.

    BE A BETTER CONSUMER.

This makes no sense to me. Yes, i can be the best Consumer i want to be, full of knowledge, well educated, and versed in the product im considering, and upon entering said store, can expect to be greeted with ignorance and disrespect? and like it? Why are said salespeople employed then?

Because that is the climate of business we are in right now. If you're expecting some snot nosed kid who is only there for a little time to get themselves through high school or community college and give you proper expertise on something audio or video that you want to purchase then you get what you pay for.

I guess I'm amazed at what you guys are expecting out of these people and you still probably want to pay as little as possible for said item.

You pay more for knowledge or you pay less for having to do your own homework and just expect these guys to be order takers. That is what they are paid to do.

OK. I have been in retail management for 15 years and had the pleasure of running my own store. Please give me the benefit of the doubt here. I know what I'm talking about........
