HI guys,

Today I discovered both of my speakers tweeters are no longer working. Do you guys have any clue or how to fix it?

    Polk sells replacements.

Just to cover the obvious first though - you have the brass bar between the binding posts on the back of the speaker correct?

Thanksfor your response MCLOKI. It looks just like the one in this picture

Is that what you're asking me? How do I find out how much they costs?

Edit: After reading your question multiple times, I think you are asking about the jumper? If so, I am using biamp cable. I have a total of 4 cables going in the receiver and speakers. I think my tweeter is bad because I took it out of the box and tried to hook a speaker cable onto it and both are not working.

Hmm...sounds strange to me. What are the odds BOTH tweeters died at the same time? Not likely. Maybe a connection?

I think I freaked it up when I tried to run an audio cable from my mixer back to my pc.

    My previous setup:

PC out to Mixer to Amp

    Setup that screwed up:

Pc Out to Mixer to Line in on PC and Amp. This caused a high peak noise and that's how they dead. huhuh.. I know, this is very dumb, but this setup is for something else.

New tweets from Polk are about $100 each plus shipping. (be sure to mention you are a club polk member for a slight discount)

Ok - based on the fact you are bi-amping, new question - you do NOT have the brass jumpers connecting the red and black terminals on the back of your speakers correct? (normal cables require the jumpers, bi-amp or bi-wire requires not having them)

If you switch connections like that very often, it might be worth some cheap garage sale or thrift shop speakers to test them out on. That way if something goes horribly wrong - you are not out quite as much money....

Anyway - on the good side - they are well worth fixing and it should be pretty easy to sort out (at least you know what went wrong - often that is the hardest part of a failure).

    Good Luck,

    Michael

Thanks McLoki. That's an expensive replacement.

Sorry my mind went blank last night after this big shock. I think I meant to say bi-wire. It's been working fine the way I have this setup just after yesterday with that long hiss/peak sound. I am hoping this is the problem because I dont think I can afford to replace everything in the speaker. :)

Btw, do u know where can i get the tool to take those screws out?

The replacement tweeter will be the part with the philips (cross) head screws - you can get one of those drivers anywhere. The others are Torx screws and you can get them at most hardware stores (I know sears has them). You will not need to remove them, but thats not exactly what you asked is it?? :p

The tweeters are kind of expensive, but the LSi is polks flagship line and I would be more upset if they charged the prices they do for LSi's and I found out it had $20 parts in it.... (try buying parts for a corvette vs a cobolt sometime... both chevy, but one is a little more costly than the other even after you buy the darn thing....)

Give Polk CS a call Monday and they will get you sorted out.

    live and learn,

Just to be sure...you did remove the jumper strips before bi-wiring them...correct? Failure to remove them can have bad results when bi-wiring.

Did you try swapping the "bad" tweeter into the other cabinet yet?
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    Ben,

Both tweeters are not working at all. I tested by taking the tweeter out and connected the speaker cable straight to it.Switching them would not help I think.

Before I purchase the new tweeters, what are the possibilities that the tweeter is not the case?

Its possible (but not likely in your situation) that the tweeter crossover is bad. I have seen the resistor in the tweeter circuit desolder itself from the crossover, but that is typically more a loud for a long time situation than a quick burst of noise.... You can always pull the crossover to check it - but if you hooked the tweeters directly up and they produced no sound - they are definately A problem, it is just unsure if they are the ONLY problem.

I am guessing you will be fine after you replace the tweeters - I would say about 85% sure based on what you have said \ described so far.
