I've been wanting to take that route for a while. NO more mowing which I friggin hate. Just have to pull a weed here and there and kick a stone back in place from time to time.

Scotts products are idiot-proof and they work.
Grass seed needs to be put down on 15 September, when growing conditions are perfect. Even under perfect conditions, for every 10 seeds dropped you will receive ONE blade of grass. For every week prior to/or after 15 Sep, you can knock that yield down by 10%.
My source is Al Carter, Tuckahoe Turf Farms, Tuckahoe, NJ. He is so good, when we had a agricultural exchange with China some years back, Mr. Carter was selected as a rep from the US. -
Ok, after scouring Home Depot for St. Augustine seeds and not finding them, I went home and did my research.
St. Augustine doesnt have a marketable seed. They have sprigs, plugs, or just sodding it. Just in case anyone was wondering.

If the St. Augustine will come back; it will choke out the weeds. From the pictures, it appears it won't be thick enough to choke out the weeds.
The main reason you have weeds now is you probably didn't put down a pre-emergent in the fall. Here in Texas, we do pre emergents twice a year. Up in Dallas area the rule of thumb is, to have pre emergent down no later than Halloween and Valentines day.
My suggestion to start with is concentrate on the weeds for now. Pull Them and Keep Pulling Them. Pretty soon it will be time for the grass to come out of dormancy. Concentrate on getting back what grass you can. A thick healthy lawn will choke out most weeds.
For taking care of St. Augustine I suggest you follow Tea's Nursery Guide for St. Augustine. The folks over there are pretty knowledgeable. If you planning on doing and bedding plants and the like, it's always good to take a look at their Calender
Plan on Plugging / Sodding the bad spots in May, if you can. It will take some work but next year you can have a great lawn, if you put in the time this year.
No way am I an expert on this stuff, but I have good luck helping a couple friends bring back their lawns. Always makes me mad, that it takes almost a full year to get everything back to the way it should look. Also, next Fall consider over seeding the lawn with Tall Fescue or Rye grass (depending on the sunlight). It will really help keep the weeds down over the winter. These grasses die off pretty quick as the heat builds and St. Augustine is getting ready to come out of dormancy and start growing.
Hope that helps,
