I'm thinking to remove premium Stars Directv channels, and doing Netflix? As anyone done this? What is the cost?

Personally use the 1 DVD at a time for $8.99. I can usually get 2 DVD's per week. Holidays sometimes I can only do 1 due to post office being closed. It comes out to just over $1 per DVD for me. If you watch more then you can go to higher cost plans with per-DVD costs being less.

Personally I like the service. I haven't gone to a local rental place since. Selection is quite good too. Some people have reported throttling of movies if you watch too much. I haven't experienced it though.

I have 1 at a time with blu ray. I think its 11 or 12 a month. I only average one a week though, so I'm not really saving much versus local rental. I just loathe going to the store to pick out a movie and then having to return it as well, so its worth just for that for me. Since I'm such a light user I never have a problem getting the movies I want. Even the "Long Wait" movies almost always get shipped immediately for me.

This whole ~30 day delay from studios does piss me off though. If the online selection improves it might offest that but so far I haven't seen that.

I have been with them for over 7 years with the 3 At-A-Time 'unlimited' plan. Blu-Ray service is an additional $4.99/mo over SD DVD. Make sure you read this:

I still love the service as it really is the best way to get movies at the lowest cost.

Yep, I stream more stuff thru my ROKU (from Netflix) than I actually use the DVD's in the mail. But, I don't need to watch every new release the day or week or month it comes out. Netflix has lots of great TV series, Documentaries, Independant Movies, etc which you can stream and in HD quality where avail. I am very content and between my DVD queue and Streaming queue, I have the rest of 2010 covered as far as choices.

I've got the 8.99 single DVD plan as well. I am too unorganized/lazy to keep up with my rental discs, so I pretty much use this solely for streaming movies. I got the disc to stream directly on my PS3, which has been a nice addition. And I've been keeping up with Spartacus through Netflix, as the episodes seem to hit their site just a day or 2 after hitting tv.

I've seen a lot of good foreign and independent films that I wouldn't have seen otherwise here lately.

Well worth the $9 a month IMHO.

Seems like a good idea, but I have to check with BellSouth since I have a $10 credit on my Directv monthly account.

Great service, especially now that the kids can stream their cartoons whenever I need them to calm down. :)

4-at-a-time here, I've been with them for a long time and I don't intend to cancel anytime soon.

I don't use their streaming option but have been a member for a long time. You can't beat their monthly packages. When money got real tight we cancelled for a while but things got a little better and for $4.99 a month we get two rentals. It beats driving to Blockbuster or the myriad of other rental stores and paying $5, gas and time to rent a movie.

I stream NetFlix from my laptop to HD television via an HDMI cable; I get a surprisingly good picture (not high def, but it doesn't suck, either).

I live in fairly large city and only 1 Blockbuster brick and morter store remains. All the other's have closed. The only one left I predict will close this year or early next year.

I am somewhat worried about that... There were 3 within 10-15 minutes of me, now there's two.

If the closest one folds, then i'll discontinue my service. :(

If that happens (and I hear they aren't saying it would be Saturday for sure) it shouldn't be too bad. Netflix doesn't ship or receive on Saturdays so as long as you get your movies back on time for Thursday shipping you should have your stuff by Friday.

Maybe I'm spoiled. I have 2 Netflix hubs within an hour of me. :o

I have one that is less than an hour away. I send them back a movie or they ship a movie and it's at its destination the next day.

BTW the USPS delivers my Netflix movies. I've never seen them delivered by UPS.

I do, but the selection isn't great. The gems are few and far between, though. Picture quality is good and I was able to catch up on several TV shows I didn't have time to see live.

Probably a really good thing to have if you have kids, though.

I do the 1-movie at a time (unlimited). Its less than $10 a month and I average 7-8 movies a month, plus I can stream their on demand movies to my Tivo which lets me fill in gaps. Overall, I think its unbeatable. I get my movies 'next day', and when I send movies back, they arrive 'next day' and I get same day turnaround. My only complaint is the long wait for some popular movies. For example, I've been waiting for Inglourious **** since December and still haven't received it. It took me almost 2 months to get Hurt Locker.

Overall, I think its much better money spent than what you get from Starz, HBO, Showtime, etc.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

The streaming really depends on your tastes. I have 102 things in my streaming queue and yes, a lot of them are TV series. But there are probably 70 movies, documentaries and music performances, etc. in my queue as well.

If you are one who likes to watch all new releases or very popular titles, then streaming may not be for you, but it's included in your subscription so if you have a DVD player or Xbox, etc that you can stream Netflix from, why not do it?

I use it all the time. I watch lots of indie flicks and foreign films that end up on there. I still think the selection isn't that good and the majority of the stuff is crap.

It's the way media is going, though, so it will only get better.

I agree and they are making the selections a little better. If they stream more mainstream stuff, I wouldn't be opposed to even paying a little more each month to stream very current stuff.

I also agree based on what's available currently for streaming there is more garbage than good stuff. But I can find plenty of "good" stuff to keep me occupied.

My hub is right here in Albuquerque. If they ship a DVD on Friday I get it Saturday. Likewise I can put a return in my mailbox Saturday and have receive a new one by Tuesday. The big improvement of Netflix over the brick & mortar store is the unlimited time I get to watch the movie. I don't have to rush it back to the store after a few days. Losing one day's delivery messes up the quick replacement for the weekend.

I have the one at a time for 8.99 and 2.00 extra for Bluray, unlimited streaming included. There is HD streaming, I think it's 720p. You should have at least 3 Mbs download speed. It's tricky to find, go to the watch instantly tab, click on genre and about half way down that list click on HD. They are supposed to be adding Dolby 5.1 sometime later this year, right now it's just stereo.
