Bad Guy George (Again)

I think I'll nip this one in the bud. It has to be over a month ago, I get a PM here:

"George, I know you don't like to ship, but will you ship this piece to me?"

"Okay, it will cost this much to ship, send the money to me at this address."

"Okay, sounds good!"

So I IMMEDIATELY boxed the thing up, I waited a week for the cash to show, and then sent the obligatory courtesy PM:

"Hey, your check hasn't arrived here yet."

"Yeah, I GUESS I OUGHT TO HAVE THE MONEY FIRST BEFORE I DO THESE THINGS."

Okay, so we're ALMOST on the same page. I keep getting PM's that I expect will sooner or later say "I sent the check" but that doesn't happen, he just keeps asking about more stuff. Last night he's asking me to bust up perfectly good subwoofers to sell him the raw drivers. At one point I finally had enough and indicated, "You need to send me a check for what you've ALREADY contracted for before I take you seriously about anything else."

This bent his nose out of shape, and he backed out of his obligation to purchase. And I lost another VALUED customer.

If you don't have either the cash, or the intellectual wherewithal to navigate the buying process, please don't contact me.

BOZO LISTED.

Sucks bro and your thoughts completely understood. I never commit if I'm not sending the greenbacks right away. Does suck because I'm sure you could have moved this elsewhere. At least common courtesy to cancel and let you know a day or so after if things change. Been there a few times myself bro, not here though.

You've been more patient than I would have been. If the check hadn't arrived in the first 2 weeks, I'd sell to someone else.

That's certainly NOT appropriate. A buyer should ALWAYS be courteous enough to provide at least a check before the product arrives....he can always cancel it if he is being scammed....but he's definitely NOT being scammed by George Grand.

In fact it was great of George to give this guy so much slack, unfortunately the guy hanged himself with it! Sorry George.

I'd like to blame the economy but this guy just sounds like an real A-H()le!

You should email his name to all of us on the "behind the scenes" distribution list george. I certainly don't want to waste my time with that individual.

Are you sure this can't be worked out?

I hope you weren't planning to ship once the "check arrives". If it was a personal check you should wait the 2-3 weeks to ensure that it clears. Even Paypal can be an issue for a seller if the buyer decides to contest the charges with the credit card company. On Ebay you should ALWAYS stick to these shipping rules because even people with high feedback scores sometimes turn bad.

Of course, once you grow to trust someone here you can decide to be more flexible. However, as a buyer with decent feedback here, I still would ensure the seller is satisfied that payment was received and cleared before I receive anything.

Your "valued" customer pretty much demonstrated he wasn't serious. The Internet is full of cry babies and trolls. Normally I would not have given this person the time of day to even write about it here. However, I am glad you did so other people can learn.

I think he had good intentions, but ended up being cash short until his tax return came in (which was this week). Then he was trying to combine purchases so he only had to send one check.

George, I understand where you are coming from though. He should have let you know that payment would be delayed, and he certainly should have followed through on the original deal instead of backing out.

I think it started to go south when someone reads "local sale only" and thinks to themselves "well that doesn't really apply to me I'll ask them to ship it to me even though I don't have the money to pay for it yet". There's been a few audio gear items that GG has had for sale that I would of liked to have. My sense of decency says that if GG says it's "local sale only" then I don't think I'm more important than that and ask for it to be shipped. IMHO.

Took the words right out of my mouth. There has been more than one time that I have wanted something also. It's called respect. It seems you have two types of people those who go out of their way to pay promptly if purchasing, follow up if selling to ask if the item arrived and are you happy with it and those that want something and then make you wait days or weeks before sending you money without saying so in advance or days later say I decided I dont want it, or if shipping to you wait a week or longer before doing so.

Dont give up the faith George there are still some of us who feel that your time is as important as ours is and wont waste it.

You'd be surprised at how much of this stuff I would ship. If I feel I can deliver it safely, I will probably agree to ship something. If I don't feel comfortable with it, I won't. Yes, I would rather sell local. I can show up at the front door in my boxer shorts and hand you the item while you eyeball it, and then accept your cash. No fuss, no muss. Shipping? This requires clothing, and a lot of time and effort on my part. The prices are also geared to local pick-up. I have a Pioneer cd changer, local p/u for $10. Wouldn't you know, some rat crawls out of the woodwork here, and joins Club Polk so that his one and only post can be,"Will you ship me that Pioneer?" Why sure, let me spend some time with this thing packing it for you, and then drive it up to the post office so I can earn maybe $5 on the deal. I told him he could have it for $25 plus shipping and I never heard from him again.

And forget asking about that Yamaha receiver. I'm not looking forward to having my heart explode again trying to hump that thing around.

I don't remove someone from my Bozo list to sell them something. That is tasteless.

I could stay away from the For Sale/Classified areas as the smallest gesture on my part, but that is about it. Trust me Mark, the last thing I want is something to do with this individual in any form.

For the record, you were fully dressed when I stopped by. Not that I would mind, of course.

Every dealing I've had with you has been of the highest integrity, and I believe that nearly everyone on the forums that you inhabit would say the same thing.

Plus, you do such good things for the world. I'm glad you brought this guy to our attention, even if he remains anonymous, but I don't think you need to justify your actions.

Wait, so "local sale only" doesn't really mean local sale only??? I wish I would have known that! I would have looked more closely at the stuff that George lists:)

I do have a question for those of you who sell a lot of stuff here and on eBay, etc. I am primarily a buyer of things, I rarely sell. Do people actually try and buy things without money? I'm sorry if that's an absurd question, but I could not fathom buying something and then asking the seller to wait a few weeks for the cash. Why would someone ever buy something if they didn't have a means to pay for it? Maybe I am naive:confused:

well , sometimes things just don't work out , but to not have the money after you say you want to buy something just isn't right. Communication is the key . I think it might go something like this.........George, I am sorry but something has come up & I just can't buy that nice cd player right now.I'm sorry for taking your time & effort up for nothing. Please forgive me............ ya ... maybe something like that

OK, I gotta stick my nose in here about payment.

Communication is key and there have been several times where a fairly high-dollar item has come up for sale that I was interested in but other priorities prevented funding from being immediately available. In an effort to hopefully not miss out on a deal while waiting for the next pay period, I have asked sellers to work out payment plans. Needless to say, I have a cherry Adcom pre-amp, a pair of Silver 7t's and a pair of original Amazings to my credit and all have been purchased on a payment plan.

There's other stuff too but it was all bought so long ago, I can't remember for sure. There was a brief period where, for some reason, I would mail a payment out only to have it returned for "lack of postage". Even when I know I put a stamp on the envelope and I could see where the old stamp had literally been torn away. I know one deal with RuSsMaN that was going south because of a less-than-honest postal worker. A complaint to the Post Office and mailing of the payment from a different office quickly remedied the issue and the transaction completed successfully.

As far as a "local pickup only" sale goes, that means local pickup only. The only way I will ever ask if it can be shipped is if I would like to own it and the seller has had no activity for a good period of time. Then, the situation might change. But, if I can't afford it and can't make good on the deal within 3 months, then I won't go for it. A roof over my head, food in my belly and clothes on my back are more important and then any piece of audio gear.
