My oldest and first real piece of hi-fi was a Fisher receiver/turntable combo chasis. It came with really nice, well built heavy speakers. I can't recall the vintage, but I'm sure it was a 1960-something. I later added a Pioneer CT-F500 cassette deck to it, then moved on to my Pioneer SX-780 receiver, PL512 TT, and HPM-40's.

Oldest speakers are my 1985 Monitor 5B's.

Oldest piece of gear would be some of the tubes I collected for my gear.

The first is a fairly rare Brimar CV1863 (5Z4G) rectifier. These are 1940's Military issue Brimar made at the STC Footscray plant. These have black micanol bases and as you can see from the original packaging they come from a large Military bulk pack. The arrow on the base indicates Military issue. Later Brimar had the screening on the glass envelope rather than the base. These are NOS and I bought them from a seller in Sweden. Outstanding sounding rectifier.

Next is a very rare pair of Valvo (Hamburg) produced ECC81 (12AT7) called "coin base" because you can see how flat the bottoms are compared to later tubes that were more rounded. One is labeled Siemens the other Valvo but they were both produced by Valvo in Hamburg based on the identical production codes on the bottom of the tube "YKB-DY". The ECC81 was the first double triode with noval socket introduced by Valvo in 1951. They have copper grid posts and "D" getters. Bought these from a seller in Germany and they are in fantastic shape. Sadly they seem to be a little noisy, but I haven't really run them a lot yet. According to the seller, who I have bought from before, they tested really strong. These are either 1951 or 1952

These are oldest pieces I own and I've found with tubes, the older the better. I have yet to hear a new production tube sound as good as the older tubes. Granted I haven't heard all types, but so far there is no comparison to tubes from the 40's, 50's, 60's.

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Jamo-555 speakers (Huge beasts), a pair of JBL l-110 (new cones and voice coil from jbl), and a Luxman L-100 integrated amp. All this is passed down to me from my father (all from the 80's I think), who wont let me get rid of any of it. I run the JBL in my computer room, but still prefer the LSIs in the living room (not really a fair comparision). The JBLs are great "little" monitors for rockin out though.

LSI15's (PNF Symphony cabels, modded X-Over and subs), LSIC, LSI7's, Rega Apollo CDP (PNF ICON ICs, modified PS cct.), Yamaha RXV-1700 w/ ipod dock, B&K REF200.2 (fronts) Samsung BDP-1600, XBOX360, Patriot Box Office Media Player, 42" Samsung LCD.

Not sue, I's either the Monitor 7s(which also has my newest piece of equipment in it, replacement mw6502) or it's the onkyo integrated that needs a rework.
