I have a set of speakers that are from 1961.
Only the rich and famous could own these and they could be hung on a wall too.
I think they are "voice of the heavens". 24x24x4" thick. They still work fine too. they have a 10" woofer and 4 other various smaller ones. There is a 16" port tube weaving around inside em to help with the lower end. One pic shows the tops and the other the whole pr.

They sure made some high quality things in the past, but only as well as their technologies would allow anyway.

My 2-channel system (refurbished/upgraded though)... Dynaco PAS-3, two Dynaco ST-70, Magneplanar MGII, Velodyne ULD-15, Dual 1228. Basically, everything was originally made between 60s and 80s.

I like the picture of that Dynaco PAS above. Very clean unit.

I've got a Dynaco Pat 4 pre I got from Troy a few years ago. Came with the original manual which is pretty cool. I think mid 60's. I am using it for the backyard Atrium's.

Oh man, thats the same receiver my Dad had running the Utah speakers. I doubt he still has it. When I was a kid, I was not allowed to touch it.

    Hello Tony,

I have quite a few vintage pieces, tubed gear like a Fisher 800-B receiver from '62, monster receivers like the Hitachi SR-2004, Pioneer SX-1980, Rotel RX-1603, and Sansui G-33000/22000 receivers from late 70's.

    FisherModel800-B-Front-1.jpgMonsterReceivers-01-1.jpg

The coolest piece is a Pioneer FM-P300 AudioMaster AM/SW/FM Monophonic Tube Receiver from 1958. It was never available in the States as it predated Fukuin (Gospel) Electric's distribution as Pioneer Electronics Corporation here by 3 years.

Label inside still says "patent applied for", and it's an actual Gramaphone. Haven't been able to track down an actually manufacture date yet.

    next oldest is this:

That's before I modified it. This is after:

Oldest gear is probably the KLH Model 6's. I do believe they are at least 10 years older than me, possibly 12.

I did acquire my grandparents old RCA console stereo which has a manufacture date of 1964 and that is, currently, the oldest piece of gear I own. Even though it's not really gear but a complete (and working!) set up.

Those older console stereos were pretty special and some sounded pretty good. I remember my parents having parties and the console playing country quite nicely. Look at the old I dream of Jenie, dick van dike show, Bewitched and what do they have in the backgrounds? yup..consoles.I've seen a ton of nice ones come through goodwill over the years.

SME V tonearm from the '80s, still in use, still sounds awesome.

VPI hotrodded w/TNT upgrades HW19 MkIV from the '80s still sounds awesome.

I have a pair of Altec 604B "Duplex" (coax speakers) and a Radio Craftsmen C-810 AM-FM tuner that date back to approximately the mid-1950s. I don't have any really vintage hifi equipment (Western Electric/ERPI, etc.)... yet.

Don't have a photo of the Duplexes handy, but this (single) Stephens-Trusonic 106AX coax is very similar and is of similar vintage (come to think of it):

    DSCN5839.jpg

The Stephens is installed in a single Karlson K-15 that happens to live here; it probably dates to the late 1950s, though...

    PA020003.jpg

Here's a not-too-good photo of the Radio Craftsmen tuner.

    craftsmenC-810side.jpg

Radio Craftsmen eventually morphed into Sherwood (who made some pretty fine tuners, too).

    P1020751.jpg

This good sounding RCA 2A3 probably dates to the 1940s, but it's not technically a "piece of gear" itself, and the piece of gear its in is less than a decade old...
