PSW111 Potentiometer Problem - Volume

Well about a week ago i started having an issue with my psw111. When i'd power on my onkyo 607 in the morning the subwoofer would be way too overpowering, it would wake up my wife and kids no matter what volume i had it on. But after about 20 minutes or so it would go back to normal, this pattern happened for about a week. Then all in the sudden my wife wakes me up one morning and said the subwoofer was making loud popping noises, so i went to check it out and anytime you tried to turn the sub down with the volume knob on the back it would crackle, hiss and pop really loudly. So i unplugged it and connected my old subwoofer up and all was ok again. So i've come to the conclusion the potentiometer for whatever reason is now defective. What i need to know is how to i get a replacement part so i don't have to ship the whole subwoofer into polk for warrantee repair, or which off the shelf part can i use? If you can provide me with the specs i can probably get the part on my own or if polk audio would send me the part i need that would be even better. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but gear4less on ebay is not an authorized dealer. For service you would have to contact the seller.

Could you at least tell me the specs on the potentiometer? I don't care if you won't service it, i've grown to accept the fact that some companies like polk audio will dodge customers any chance they get. Thats fine, i'm not going to be a repeat customer and i will not endorse the products from here on out. Just tell me the specs and i'll fix it on my own, certainly you have a BOM that will tell you the part number of it.

Well we're not the only ones who have a policy on unauthorized retailers, most of our competitors do as well. If you are going to go with a different brand, I'd suggest checking with them first BEFORE making a purchase. That's the risk you take when you purchase something on eBay. Read here for more information on our policy: http://www.polkaudio.com/dealerlocator/authorized.php

    Anyway, it's 10k, 20%.

What have you done so far to get Polk's help? If you read testimonials of the way Polk takes care of their customers you would notice that your comment is quite isolated. Well, both of you are in the proper thread to get some answers from Polk in that regard (and usually answers and good CS comes pretty quickly).

Just be patient and good luck with your problem fix! ;)

Just replace it with a 10k potentiometer, I usually buy them from Parts Express.

Dodge customers? Give me a break. I think you should take your business elsewhere anyways. You appear to be the immediately unsatisfied type based on the quick segway into Polk sucks comments. Good luck.

Mark, jwm2 dates back to nearly 2 years ago. ; ) You might want to check with the 2 latest posters instead. In fact 32deuce has a seperate thread regarding this problem since November I believe while hugoalanochoa just posted the question today. ;)

    If this helps; http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?127654-sub-starting-to-act-up.&p=1710892#post1710892

Sorry, dates back to December 26th... 32deuce, please be a little patient and realize December 26th was right after Xmas and more likely a day off for Polk staff (like many of us) and your thread was more likely burried during the holiday season. I am convinced that now that it is brought back to surface a Polk CSR will reply and provide you with the usal Polk next to none CS.

i forgot put and update, i already replace the 10k POT i replaced with a 10K high precition pot and now is working great!!!, it took me 5 min to replace it, but i was dissapointed with the quality of the electronic components that i found inside of the sub amp, i am an electronic engineer and i took note of the number of the power FETS and other key componets and i found that are more common and cheaper that i spect for a $200 dlls sub
