Sony 34XBR800 now a big paper weight?

Hi,
I recently replaced my Sony 34XBR800 34" widescreen TV with a Panny plasma. After learning that the TV needed repair for the 2nd time, with the same problem, it is now sitting on my back porch taking up space. I have the matching stand as well. Seven years ago, I paid $2200 for this set and it has a beautiful picture (when it is working).
Anyway, I am just looking for suggestions as to what I could do with the TV? I was thinking if I just put it at the curb, on the stand, with a sign stating that it needs repair, maybe someone would just take it (it weighs about 250 lbs. !!!)
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sony tv's like Sony parts, replacement parts of not Sony don't last long. It could be repaired again using the correct parts, and you may have a nice second set. Just a thought.

The set was already repaired once using Sony parts. I called the same place that repaired it the first time and it would cost another $350 to fix it again (which is what it cost about a year ago). It is just 2 ICs on the main board that need to be replaced. They have something to do with voltage. I wasn't ready to fork out another $350 for an 8 year old set, so I just opted for a new set instead. It's too bad, since it is a very nice set when it is in working order. -
It's fine with me what you do with it. But I since the problem with this set it's dead, or just sound. If so I doubt seriously it's has a Sony Horizontal output transistor in it.

My brother had the same problem a couple years back. I believe he posted it on Cragislist 'AS-IS' for some piddly amount of money and quickly had someone take it.

Call someone to come and get it , it only gets heavier as you get older.Dan

LOL, my SXRD is in the shop right now for a defective light engine. Hopefully getting it back in a few days, good as new. Covered under the 6 year extended warranty thanks to a class action lawsuit, hopefully my luck is better than you have had. Those old Sony's are tanks, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody was willing to take it off your hands as is.

Yes, the thing is a beast to move! I must say that my new TV (Panasonic 46" plasma TC-P46G10) is quite nice, but the Sony had an awesome picture. Hopefully, someone might be interested in spending the money to get it fixed. I may put it on Craigslist "as-is", as suggested by another post. At this point, I don't even care if I get any money for it. On the other hand, I could have it made into a fish tank, I suppose. :>)

I still have a XBR34 that I bought new from GG in 1997, still kicking strong. I would not even attempt to lift it, and have used furniture slider to haul it around the house (it's on its matching stand). This one gives me zero problem from the day it was put to service. However, another Sony XBR27, bought in 1993 demo from SILO (remember that chain?) had PQ issues and fixed twice. It finally gave up ghost in 2006 and got hauled away by a relative who wanted to fix it.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

If you have a vehicle you can get it into...and your local Best Buy has a 'recycling' program. You can just drop it off there...and get some 'minimal' credit, maybe....At least it won't go to a dump and they'll take it off your hands...or porch in this case!
