RTi 28 melted crossover

Short story, long night, too much loud music, melted speakers parts.

The subs on my little RTi 28's are out, the little white rectangle shaped parts on the crossovers are melted off the crossover boards.

They are white, about 1" * 1/4" * 1/4" and read RX5W3R5J then 0249 "C" with a bit of a squiggle after the "c" symbol. There are two on this side of the board, and they are the only part on that side of the board.

So, my fault they are damaged, but, can I fix them. Can anyone tell me what this is from my bad description?

Everything else on the board looks ok and the tweeters are playing fine. Can I get replacement crossovers if I cannot repair these? What do they usually run? I have an email into customer service now

Thank you,

MR

Thank you all for the quick replies.

Regarding the resistor, the two on the board have different numbers, the bad one must be for the sub, obviously. How do you know which replacement to pick?

Is the Mills 3.5 Ohm 12W Non-Inductive Resistor specific to the sub? It appears the current resistors have different numbers, which one would I get for the tweeter, if I wanted to replace it also?

Clearly, I know nothing about these parts, so, sorry for the vague inquiry....

    Thank you,

Well, what does the other resistor say on it?

    Thank you.

It was a bad night for the little guys! They were rears on my home theater, ended up in the closet when I put the rears in the wall. They came to the rescue at a neighbor's 40th birthday party, but suffered in the process.

I have enjoyed reading up a bit on crossovers, as I clearly know nothing about electrical parts.

The poly foam is melted, smells horrible. I was reading about convoluted foam, blackhole5 and poly.

Any thoughts about replacing the poly in the RTi 28's with sheet material? Hate to mess with a good thing, maybe I should just replace the poly with new poly?

Sounds like they went through hell.

Before replacing anything, I would test the woofers by themselves.

For replacement poly, go to your nearest craft store and pick up some poly fill.

Yeah... good point, appears they are DEAD.... no sound when hook direct to the receiver.... now what?

    Tweeters are fine.

What breaks in the speaker? How do I fix it? Any good suggestions on replacements?

Speakers (or at least the parts I have left) are too nice to junk!

The voice coil is probably melted. Call Polk, tell them you're a member of Club Polk, and ask how much it would cost for a pair of replacement woofers.

Thank you, I will, looks like about 70.00 each...

Anyone have experience with the parts express speakers?
