I am looking to build a phono pre on a very limited budget. I am thinking http://glass-ware.stores.yahoo.net/aiphpcb.html . Any other ideas in a similar price range would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ben

I haven't seen it yet but everybody that has said it's the ****.
Gary from intrinsic sound built it and wants $1200 for it.

These things are paint by number. You can easily do it too. If I were you I would look into building one yourself. The down fall for me is the cases. I know you can build them no problem so you are ahead of the game.

I can build you a case just tell me what size, If I make it out of aluminum it would be nothing for you to put the holes where you want them.

On a side note I need glasses, I just saw you said phono pre, I was talking about a pre/amp:)

No experience with the boards at the link posted; they look rather complex (generally not such a good thing IMNSHO). They certainly look nice, though.

The basic RCA circuit sounds very good but can be a bear to get quiet. It is based on the 7025/12AX7 -- not the most exciting high-gain dual-triode, but certainly a venerable candidate for vacuum tube MM phono preamps.

You can see it in, e.g., http://www.pmillett.com/tubedata/RC20.pdf (note: this is a 22 MB D/L!) see page 412 of the manual (which is pg. 414 of the PDF file).

The Bottlehead Seduction is a nice sounding phono preamp kit (point to point rather than on a PCB) but 1) gain is a bit limited and 2) it isn't so inexpensive anymore. This is the one I use (so, yes, I am a bit biased).

I thought I had saved other lower priced phono pre amp stuff but I cant find it now. I will look some more. Are you going to use a MM cart?

Wonder how good this would be for $70. The power supply is about $180.

I think with the Tetra you still have to supply some of the components and the transformer.

With the tetra all I need is the transformer, and I have that.
