Heat Pump Water Heater

So I'm interested to do those HP hot water tank but, I'm confused on what to do with the condensate drain pipe? The instruction state if you don't have a drain near the tank you need a "Condensate Pump" one if these? http://www.amazon.com/Little-Giant-VCMX-20ULS-C-Automatic-Condensate/dp/B0026PFJX0
So what do I do with that? My hot water tank is my garage, the temperature and pressure pipe runs outside under the cement slap to outside which is a 15/20' run. Could I tee in this drain pipe for the condensate drain?

I found this website page interesting, it took the price / installation / and the cost to use it.

Yes, that was interesting, looks like it did pretty good in all aspects..
Heres a line I found:
"Several manufacturers have discontinued their lines of heat pump water heaters due to lack of consumer and contractor awareness."
That the problem with this new technology and the costs, everybody is afraid to do it...thus it just dies out...sad.
I don't know what the rules and regs are in Florida, could you just run the line outside your garage onto your lawn or flower bed:)disneyjoe7 wrote: »I found this website page interesting, it took the price / installation / and the cost to use it.

Looking at this data, and talking with a co-worker I know believe this PDF data sheet isn't correct. They took cost of installation and life in years and added installation cost over again if it failed under 13 years in which most other technology lived to.
So they show
conventional oil-fired storage
$1400 Installation
$654 Yearly energy cost
8 years of operating life
$11,299 cost over 13 years
Since they added installation cost in at year 9 there cost is higher. I took cost of installation over the 8 years, so I added a faction of installation cost over the period over 13 years. My cost over 13 years
$10,777
Then we have "Demand gas (no pilot)" if living to 20 years its total cost over 13 years should have been $4446 not their $5008 figure. Solar being the same 20 years of live, it's cost over 13 years should be $6620 vs. their $7072 figure.
Bringing all figures in to a 13 year prioried some interesting facts amerge.
Gas fired hot water ran as the following over the 13 years of installation / energy cost.
Conventional $5394
High Efficiency $5220
Condensing $5170
Tankless $4446
Electric type
Standard $6769
High Eff. $6528
Solar Electric backup $6620
HPHW $4125
In the end Heat Pump Hot Water tank seems to win, but it doesn't stand out like it did before and it's seems more accurate representation of cost.

I think your hybrid electric water heater was on This Old House Hour last night.
Supposed to be more energy efficient than standard electric one, but it sounded like if you already have a natural gas water heater, that still might be more efficient. -
If you got gas I wouldn't change to electric anything myself.
