I have yet to find the limits of my amp. Came close running a pair of LSi 15's in a very large open room. The fact that its's rated at 30wpc simply amazes me everytime I sit down an listen.

Anyways have fun..........that's what the hobby is all about.

I have noticed and statd in other threads that if I do not let me Aragon 8008bb amp warm up for about 45 minutes, it will send "high frequency spikes" through your head. OUCH. After 45 minutes though the frequency range is a lot more listenable and doesn't hurt your head anymore.

I'm sure different amps will require more or less warm up time, but all will benefit from this warm up. That said, I do turn my equipment off when I am not using it. I will only turn it on/off once per day (that I listen anyway).

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Here's what I do to "fake" myself out:

For the first 40 minutes, only the best sounding CD's get played.

No psyching out needed for me.............it's a fact that it takes time to cook. Even my brother noticed it when he brought a pre-amp over to test and when we turned it on, he later commented about whether there might be something wrong with the pre-amp he just received because it sound so dead and lifeless. I explained my amp needed ample warm up time to hit the sweet spot. :)

In fact, when its cold, the Aleph sounds a bit too dark and recessed. However, as it warms up, the highs come into almost perfect balance with the midrange. So if you're tweaking your system to suit the Aleph, be sure to allow it sufficient time before taking any action. For example, my first impression when I first switch it on is that I should change over to a brighter sounding preamp. Allow the Aleph to cook for a couple of hours, and life is good again.

The Aleph takes at least an hour to warm up to its final operating state. Both measured distortion and noise are higher when it is cold. Still, the amp sounded so good that, even in its handicapped cold state, it was fun to listen to. I didn't leave it on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because I'm one of those tree-hugging wackos who likes to conserve electricity.

The feet of my amp when powered up, glow yellow, when the proper warm up time occurs they then glow blue. I've notice that this time varies between 35 & 45 minutes.

I've listened to great LPs, CDs and SACDs, during this "yellow" period and it just sounds thin and lifeless. Once "blue" however, heaven, I'm in heaven.:)

Interesting... I hadn't heard of people doing this before. Although, I generally leave my preamp in what I assume is standby mode. My current power amp doesn't have any switches, so I use a surge protector that automatically switches 4 outlets on or off when it senses current to the "master" outlet.

I've noticed that when I power up the amp, my speakers' woofers visibly move out and back in once. It has always done this... maybe I should just leave the amp on all the time?

Ok, but I meant 120,000uF per channel for a total of 240,000uF. :D:p.

Sorry, this popped up and I just had to set the record straight...........you know for the archives and what not :);).

When I ran all SS gear? Absolutely. With all tubed gear? No.
Allow me to discuss this a little further, please.

When I am listening to background music on tubed gear, I do not let the system warm up. So long as it is at a low volume, I really do not notice any artifacts or unwanted sound. Of course, with background music I am usually doing things and walking around the room. That said, when I am doing some serious/critical listening with tubes I allow anywhere between 4 hours to 1 day to do any kind of evaluations. When I really want to get absorbed in the music and let it take me to that magical audio heaven, I'll keep it on for 3 days and play it as loud as my heart desires and just sit back [beer in hand] to enjoy and feel the sonic bliss.

SS gear I just keep on all the time.
