I'm glad to have joined recently and I'd like to thank everyone for their time and input. Past, present, and future.
I'm looking for recommendations for an amplifier to use with my Monitor 10b's. I've got a Yamaha RX-V590 that puts out 80W @ 6ohms and the Polks sound pretty damn good. I'm just thinking I'd like to put a little more power to them. I don't know much about amps. Or if I'll even notice an improvement in what already sounds great. Is this a good idea? Down the road I'd like to pick up and hook up additional pair. Advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian

I have an Onkyo Integra M504 on my 10's. Think it's 165 wpc?!? And it is way more than adequate. So much so I wish they made "governors" for power amps to keep the wifey from possibly blowing the speakers! :p
    --Gary--
Onkyo Integra M504, Bottlehead Foreplay III, Denon SACD, Thiel CS2.3, NHT VT-2, VT-3 and Evolution T6, Infinity RSIIIa, SDA1C and a few dozen other speakers around the house I change in and out.

For bang for the buck, the older Adcoms, Carver or Harman Kardon amps work well with the M10s. Get 200+ wpc and you may need a preamp.

I have mine on a B&K St-1400 SII and really like it. It is only 150wpc +/- at 6ohm load of the Mon 10's, but it sounds good to me. It is more of a 'warm' sound, and if you like the Yammu sound, then it may not be for you. I prefer the warmer sounding gear.

    Which tweeter does your have?

First of all thanks for every ones input. To answer a couple questions:
tonyb, yes my receiver has front, rear, center, and low pass terminals. Which the owner's manual says I can drive those speakers with external power amplifiers. Great question! I had forgotten that they existed and what they were for. I think I bought the receiver maybe 15 years ago, brand new in the box.
kcoc321, I'm not sure which tweeter I have, except that they are original. I bought them, for $200 a while back, from a friend at work (the original owner). He thinks he bought them some time around 85'. He still owns the Carver amp he used with them. I'd make him an offer for it. But, unless it puts out more than my Yamaha it seems pointless I guess.
So, I'm grateful to everyone for helping me learn about this stuff:)
