Darn, wish the 70s were in black. I have been waiting for newegg to drop their monitor 60 prices but I would hop on this if it was black - already snagged cs2 and 30s for surround, now just need fronts to complete my first HT setup :)

Welcome to Club Polk matt. I hear ya about the 70's, they haven't had a sale on them in forever so this is a very good oppertunity. Don't know how many more times these will go on sale. A few months back they went on sale every other week, so they are def. running low by now.

Thanks very much for the post. Just snagged the 40's and 505. Also wish the 70's were in black and may just take the chance that they will go on sale as to match the rest of the set. Thanks again

No problem gm, that's why I posted it, I know they are in high demand here. I am seriously considering selling my PSW125 to set up funds for a PSW505. Glad I could help.

In for a penny, in for a pound. What would be a good Center speaker to go with my new Monitor 70s? Currently have an Infinity CC1.

Gotta spend all my money, burned hole in pocket...Ouch Hot Hot Hot!!!!!

The best center to compliment the Monitor 70's is the CS2.

My order went in 30 mintues after you posted. New 70's and 40's on the way. I have not even had the chance to set my system up yet. I want to mount my CS2 below the tv, and get the 40's off the ground. Anyone have tips on bracket ideas for either the CS2 and or the Monitor 40's?

The CS2 is a monster...I wish I could put mine on the wall...I cant imagine anything that big and heavy being able to hold on my wall (unfortunately).

Thinking about getting the 40's at this price...wish it didnt go on sale...I was goin Sub next...now I am going to get myself in trouble

For the center channel after trying some DIY stuff I went with some brackets made specifically for this. They work great with my csi3 and should have no problem with a CS2.

I would look into getting a standalone amp before considering replacing your speakers. Those would be capable of much more on decent amplification. I didn't look at the specs, but your receiver should have the preamp outs to support it.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Leave it to newegg to do their price drops. They just dropped the PSW505 to the same price I bought my PSW125 and both were a still IMHO.

How do the Monitor 40's compare to the RTi4's?

This is probably a stupid question, but how much better are either one compared to the Insignia bookshelves at Best Buy everyone raves about?

It depends on what the rest of your set-up is. I know a lot of people rave about the Insignia book-shelf speakers, I would rather stick with a name that I know means not only great sound, but a great value. I would stick with the 40's over Best Buy's store brand any day of the week.

Right now I've got a 2.1 setup with the Insignia bookshelves, a 12" Klipsch sub, and an HK AVR 154 (30W x 5). My room is 30' x 20' with a vaulted ceiling, but I sit about 12' from the speakers.

The Insignia's sound great for the price, but I feel they were a much better deal when they were ~$50. Now they are $90.

I was looking to get some new mains and move the Insignias to surround duty. The problem with the M40's is that they are too tall for my a/v racks and I'd have to lay them down horizontally. So it's M40's on their sides, a second pair of Insignias, or the RTi4's. I don't use a center channel and probably never will so that's not a concern.

You are in for a treat Mike, IMHO those 70's are the best bang for the buck Polk has for entry level speakers. I love mine, and will have them for quite some time to come.

can you keep us imformed Mike. im so close to dropping the hammer on the 70s. my only hold up is the rest of my speakers are black monitors and the wood grain wouldnt match but im scared if i wait for the black 70s to drop in price, that may not happen. the monitors are old stock and they have to run out soon. let us know how they work out please
