I was listening to Gloria Estefan tonight because I'm just plucking "blindly" CD's that are in my rack. It's been years if not a decade or more since I listened to her. Thing is, I liked it!

Especially song 11, "Oye Mi Canto" in the Spanish version [I skipped past the English version for some reason...]. I have no freakin' idea what this means [language] and I could care less. The horns are superb and the recording as a whole is well balanced, at least on my rig.

I thought I hated this album? WTF?

Great gear brings great music. That is what it all should be about. The music. Sad or good? :eek:

    Good gear can be revealing. Case in point:
    For the longest time I could NOT figure out why Patsy Cline was so revered in the world of country music. Probably because I had only heard her thru sh!tty tv or car stereo speakers. Once I heard her thru a decent set up, I got it.;)

    I had a similar look of "WTF" awhile back, listening to SteelyDan on vinyl.

    I never heard OF the song Bodhisattva(sp?), much less heard it before.

    But man, what a detailed, wide soundstage it throws out, esp. on SDAs!

    I'm finding that out about a lot of my music though, even on songs I am familiar with; it's a good feeling, too!
    So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    I've found that well recorded music is pleasing to my ear whether I like the genre or not.

    Harry what's with not knowing "Bodhisattva," that's a Steely Dan classic?

    Talented singer, with great voice. Much better than what passes for talent today. If you pick your music based on what OTHERS will say about you rather then what is pleasing to YOUR ears, then THAT is truly sad!

    No shame in the game at all. When the girl and I were still together, she was allowed to play literally anything she wanted on my system. I enjoyed seeing her astounded at how well her music could sound, and found myself tapping my foot to some of her tunes in the process. I now (shamefully?) don't mind the occasional "popular" song....and play the "popular" radio station on Grooveshark at work to get caught up on what is hip. I've been impressed with Rihanna specifically. not my normal choice for music, but that chick can sing...

    I actually liked Justin Timberlake when I saw him in his HBO special
    - not because I like his music, I don't;
    - but because I liked the way the live performance sounded on my system...........

    I empathize with ya man - its not sad that your system makes bad music sound good - that makes the world a better place.

    I have the Sony cd carrousels and often just leave it on random shuffle mode. A nice song came up from Gloria Estefan called "I'm Not Giving You Up", it's on the Destiny album. Give it a listen if you have it.
