What's with all the hate against Al Gore? Come on, he did invent the internet. . . Oh wait, that was a lie.

I think we all do what we can within our means. But, we shouldn't judge nor dictate other people's use. I can't even begin to tell you how many times someone has told me that they are doing good things for the environment by driving a Prius. . . Hey Jackhole, it still has a combustion engine that emits CO2. It's not doing anything to improve the environment!

You should look out for number 1 first, of course, I just don't understand why people go out of their way to be ****, or why it inspires ire when someone essentially says "consider the rest of the world when making a decision." Especially when you same jerkoffs pretend to be religious, considering Jesus's number one frickin decree was supposedly about treating others well.
Put it this way... there's no law against farting in an elevator, but it still makes you an ****.

Wow where did that come from and what has that to do with this discussion?

    THAT is indeed offensive Bob!

You're fine. A couple years ago, there was a 3 month period when I was basically driving a 16,000 lb bucket truck daily. I'd use it for my grocery shopping...going to friends houses...whatever...lol

But, that's what happens when your car breaks down and you can't afford to fix it...lol

Also, not to add fuel to the fire. But diesels are really more environmentally friendly than gas engines. Especially when you run them on soy bio-diesel...which by the way, requires absolutely no modification to your engine or fuel system, despite what you may hear elsewhere. Is it the end all answer? Hell no...but it's a step in the right direction.

One of the biggest problems is the people driving Hummers, Chevy Suburbans and Ford Expeditions when they're single...no family...a few mile drive to work, and absolutely no legitimate reason to own a truck. The world NEEDS trucks...but the average person doesn't.

no legitimate reason to own a truck

Your kidding I hope. This is still america, were we can buy what we want, when we want.and how we want, for whatever reason floats our boat. Speaking of boats, is there a "legitimate reason" to buy a boat if you don't live on a lake ? How about a private plane?

Umm...I was referring to the people that really don't have a legitimate reason to own a truck. I wasn't saying that NOBODY needs a truck.

I'm referring to the people that never carry anything more in their car than some groceries once a week, and a suitcase on the way to work. People that don't have a boat or anything to tow. People with no families to cart around.

Many people do have a legitimate reason for needing a truck or SUV...but most people that go out and buy a Hummer just to look cool really have no reason to need a truck.

Also, yes there are a lot of legitimate reasons for needing a boat or a plane. Many people use them in their lines of work.

Also, a boat generally isn't your daily driver to and from work. Nor is a private plane.

Sorry Curt... I love ya like a brother but I don't agree. Bottom line is IF I wanted to drive a freakin' Conventional cab Peterbuilt with a double sleeper and a 55 foot trailer behind it for no other purpose than to go to MickyD's for a double bacon angus and three orders of french fries, then GOD bless the U.S.A. Granted, that would be a stupid thing to do for the cost of fuel alone, but it is still the choice of the owner to decide what vehicle they wish to own and how they choose to drive it.

I am getting sick of the demonization of America. They can have the keys to my vehicle of choice(Hummer, Ferrari, Peterbuilt, etc) when they pry them from my cold dead fingers.

I don't think you understood my point.
Why...Why do you need a legitimate reason,as you say, to buy anything? AND,who are you to decide for me if that reason is in fact, legitimate? So what if a single guy buys a Hummer, what concern is that of yours? You should be happy because the people that make those hummers could keep their jobs alittle longer, and the wheels of the economic engine turn.

Boo hoo. I find the "screw everyone but me" attitude offensive. I find hypocrisy offensive, which is why I always get sucked into these threads.

I'm a libertarian for the most part, I think people should be left to make their own decisions and do what they want, but I also think how they make those decisions says a lot about what type of person they are. Again, this has nothing to do with someone choosing to drive a truck to the train station, but this thread went off into the broader meaning of "social responsibility." In my mind being "socially responsible" is a good thing, when you CHOOSE to do it to make other people's lives easier and better and society function better as a whole.

When instead you say things like :
I look out for number 1 first which means me, my wife and my child. .... I would like to take that phrase "Socially Responsible" and shove up the person's arse who first coined the phrase.

... then yes, I question how you can reconcile that with your supposed belief system, considering it goes exactly contrary to it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Hmmm, I rode a bicycle exclusively for over a quarter of a century commuting an ungodly amount of miles per day. Rain, snow, ice, fog, wind, blazing heat, humidity, bugs, mud, unpaved roads, drivers cutting you off, hitting you...... It's funny how what you think your **** is? There's always folks that can **** about the driving habits of YOU.

    What's your carbon footprint?

I never said, "screw everyone else!" Don't put words in my mouth man. You are way out of line and really reaching, linking what I said to my religious beliefs whether you think they are "supposed" or not.

Once again you take every opportunity to put down Christians and cry hypocrisy! Your anti-Christian agenda has always been blatantly obvious.

You once told me you are a Christian for the most part the last time this nonsense was brought up by you.

I use to drive 65 miles one way to work! That was before my company closed its doors and I was unemployed for 8 months. I now drive 14 miles one way. And I drive a big ole' truck too. Do I haul something everyday? No. But when I need to its there. I firmly believe in never bringing a knife to a gun fight.:p

Now that i think about it, it's probably MORE "socially irresponsible" (whatever the hell that even means, anyways) for me to drive my 20 year old Japanese economy car with it's little twinky 4-cylinder gas engine, than it is for someone to drive a modern diesel truck.

    Take that as you may.
