iPhone app practice ideas?

I got a Mac Mini from work, picked up some iPhone SDK books to help me get started with ObjC and Cocoa programming. Now I need some simple ideas I could practice with. I prefer something related to audio if possible. These are not meant to be commercial applications, I'm not looking to steal anyone's ideas, just something simple that you may need for your specific tasks.

How about an app to play a tone sweep and use the mic to measure the response? For speaker testing, finding standing waves, etc.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

+1 on that ideaDan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Thought about that as well. I will put that on my short list of iPhone projects. My wife is a cell phone addict, she has been wanting an iPhone for a long time and finally ordered one so I will have a phone to test with as well.

Should also look into Android dev.

Should also look into Android dev.
Android will/should run Java and almost any Linux app on the market. I already have Java environment setup for Blackberry and porting those for Android should not be a big task.
I wish I could get a Nokia N900. Maemo seems to be even better than Android as it will give you full root access while Android is very restrictive. -
Have you installed the iPhone SDK yet?

i have had the iPhone SDK for a year now. Most I have done is make it through an objective c book and most of the way through iphone specific book. I just can't seem to find the motivation after 8 hours of software dev at work to keep going at home. I even have app ideas I want to do, if nothing else for myself. lol I'm getting lazy at my age ( a whopping 32).
As for app ideas, you always could find one you kind of like at the app store and try to make a better version of it. I am really picky about user interfaces and always think I can do better, never tried though, might hurt my ego if I did and failed
Best of luck to you.

Yes, I have. Played around with Xcode a little but haven't had any time yet to dig in deeper. -

I'm already getting lazy at half that age...so many ideas >_< -

For the response, you'd want to have the hardware so you could get the mic calibrated. Probably would need different calibration for 1st gen, 3g, 3gs, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves...Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Yep, something simple for now. I will save all calibration routines to work stuff, I get to do that too much over there. -
Both code? # of downloads?

Talk about ugly code syntax! I'm talking about octomom having kids with K.Richards ugly... ObjC, can't say I like it.
Xcode environment is ok but certainly not up to par with some of the better IDE's out there. UI Builder is quite nice but I feel the whole setup has an unorganized feel to it. Part of it has to do with the fact I am not very familiar with OSX yet and have trouble finding my way around there at the moment. How things work on Mac's is certainly different, whether it's bad or god is dependent of the situation and user. -
