IMHO the 1007 is a beast, but don't be fooled by power ratings, Onkyo and most other companies, rate their speakers at only 2 channels driven and the power output will drop considerably with every speaker you add after that.-Jeff

That's why I like the Pioneer Elite avr's because all the testing I seen by independent electronic websites/mags show Pioneer's advertised numbers are closest to real world numbers.

wutadumsn and kuntasensei, there was another thread about laser discs labeled "Laserdisc Dynamics vs Blu Ray" and their sound versus dvd and bluray, could you give us your insight on that thread? There were a lot of questions over there that were asked.

I'm using the Onkyo TX-NR1007. It has connections for 11 channels, but only lets you run 9 channels of amplification at once. The Denon's the only one that lets you do a full 11 channels, though I think you might have to use an external amp to drive two of the speakers in that setup.

Does the Pioneer Elite SC-09 or any of their new models let you do full 11 channels?

My only complaint with Pio avr's is they have no video upconversation to 1080p. I wish they would put the Anchor Bay VRS chip in their avr's so I can upscale my cable tv to 1080p with HDMI connection. I have Comcast HD but Comcast only goes up to 1080i currently and I don't want to buy another DVDO Edge box for other rooms in my house. Other than that I of course let my Oppo do the upscaling for when watching DVD and blurays. Pio really needs to have HDMI upconverting to 1080p in this era of HDMI because Onkyo and Denon have it, why not Pio?

Looks like the SC-09 does 10.2, and holy crap that thing is a beast!!!! It weighs 70lbs, and goes for a mere $7,000.

If you compare the amps in on the 875, 6, with the new Onkyo 1007 you will notice an increase of about 2 amps to cover the extra speakers (9.5 amps vs. 11.5--I think). The 1007 and above are also just a few pounds heavier as well. Since the 875/905 were, more or less able to reach they're power ratings
'suspect the new units do as well.
