Can it be the BIG one !!!!

...I am originally from PA. and it wasn't a Storm if it didn't drop at least 16"'s. Of course we didn't have the traffic or the crazy drivers like here in the SOUTH.

    It's snowing there now?

They're forecasting that we get hammered here. (by local standards, not mine.) The girlfriend has some Mary Kay pampering she won tomorrow morning, and i think i'm going to make her stay home. She's born and bred here, and i don't want her driving in it with all the other idiots around here.

...will start around 11am tomorrow. Maybe 2" an hour at times. Lets go for the record.

DC has reported one ≥ 24" snowfall in its history - the "Knickerbocker Storm" of Jan 27-28, 1922. During this storm the weight of the snow caused the roof of the Knickerbocker Theater in DC to collapse, killing 98 people and injuring 133.

The winter of '79 was the worst I can recall up in that area. The city pretty much came to a standstill for two or three days. I don't miss it a bit, but it was fun as a kid. Three feet of snow where I was and at the tail end of the snowstorm came freezing rain creating a 1" thick layer of ice on top of the snow. We would build tunnels and pop up out of the middle of nowhere 200' away.

Bah... this backasswards city was completely shut down for 2 days a couple years ago. For about.... one foot of snow. Stupid.

We're supposed to get 4-8" with some sleet and freezing rain mixed in. I don't anticipate working tomorrow so far. It's not supposed to get bad until tomorrow early afternoon, which is the worst. I don't want to go in, and then not be allowed to leave.

This is all so funny to me... Here's some links and quote explaining why:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Snowball_Award
Boasting 115.6 inches (294 cm) on average,[13] the Syracuse metro area receives more snow on average than any other large city in the United States.[14][15] Syracuse continually wins the Golden Snowball Award, among Upstate cities. Its record so far is 192.1 inches (488 cm).
One notable blizzard was the Blizzard of 1993, during which 42.9 inches (109 cm) fell on the city within 48 hours, with 35.6 inches (90 cm) falling within the first 24 hours.
The Blizzard of '58 occurred in February (16-17th) across Oswego and Onondaga counties. This storm was an actual blizzard due to the high winds, blowing snow and cold. 26.1 inches (66 cm) of snow was measured at Syracuse N.Y. and drifts reached 20 feet (600 cm) in Oswego County.

I honestly wish something like that would happen here.

It's funny. I live up in the Albany, NY area. Typically, we see about 60" of snow a season, with the last few years quite a bit more. Right now, we are 17" below where we should be by this time of the winter. That equates to one good sized dumping or a couple of medium ones to catch up.

I do a lot of business with D.C. folk. As of yesterday, we were talking and it was determined that they are well ahead of Albany for total season snow so far. I've been in D.C. when a mere 4" fell. Not a pretty sight....

Keep doing us the favor here in eastern NY and keep those storms we usually get well to the south of us! :D:p

I'm about an hour south of DC. While I was at work tonight, my wife went out to get some SuperBowl munchies. She said the stores looked like locust ran through them.

Of course everybody buys the essentials: milk, bread and toilet paper. They buy so much, it's as if none of these things will ever be delivered again!!

We haven't had a snowflake hit the ground yet and all the schools are closed already. I'm originally from Chicago, the reaction to snow here is just amazing. All common sense disappears and panic actually takes over.

I'm gonna take it in stride--forecasts are mixed for my area, but it could be anywhere from 8-24 inches-I guess it depends on the track the storm takes.
I have my Snow Thrower ready and lots of music that needs listening too, and no plans otherwise.
Hmm, maybe we'll go ice skating on the pool.

Well I have to run to the store to get some bread, eggs, milk and TP since it seems like we'll be trapped in the house for a few months.:eek:;)

**EDIT: Oh yeah have to hit the distributor too--I think I'm low on brewskis

Have fun and stay safe/warm guys. Wish we had some snow here, been a pathetic winter after back to back record seasons. We have only had something like 12" of snow all year, and it has been above freezing during the day for like a month and a half straight now.

Yes, but if they hadn't closed schools & it snowed while they were on their way, everyone would be b*tching about it. You can't win with school closings. You take your best guess & live with it. Better safe than sorry, MOST parents think....

I'm sorry I left out the bread issue and why the cows and chickens die....

The chickens and cows foresee the end of the world in the coming storm and gorge on all the wheat--no wheat...no bread. They gorge on so much wheat that they literally eat to death.

At least we'll have OJ from sunny FL and CA. Oh wait a minute, the delivery trucks won't make it to the NE--Ah crap--back out to the store again to get OJ.

    From the Inquirer:
Airline flights. Flight cancellations are being announced throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

So before hearing to Philadelphia airport, be sure to check the status of the flight, by contacting the airline, visiting the airport's website at www.phl.org, or calling 1-800-745-4283 (1-800-PHL-GATE).

More than 80 departures are listed as cancelled this morning.

In Philadelphia, Southwest Airlines has cancelled most of its service today, all of its service tomorrow, and some departures early Sunday morning.

U.S. Airways has cancelled 138 flights from Philadelphia scheduled for this afternoon and tonight.

The airport itself expects to remain operational during the storm, according to spokeswoman Victoria Lupica, who said 400 employees and contractors have more than 200 pieces of snow-removal equipment at their disposal.
Amtrak has canceled service for most trains south of D.C. For more, go to www.amtrak.com.
