Bought a couch

I know there was a couple of people in here who recently bought some furniture. So I need a little of mind easing.

I've been looking for a couch and chair for a little bit but not very hard. Today there was a huge warehouse blowout, of course being a beautiful spring day just ripe for spending a wack of cash, I bought a leather couch and chair. It was sort of a spur of the moment purchase but I coudn't pass up the deal. The couch retailed for roughly $2800CDN and the chair $2400CDN. The combined sale price was $2099 +tax. They both have zippered back removable cushions and removable/rearangable seat cushions in a nice glazed sort of greyish leather. Really top quality.

My problem now is, I'm second guessing the purchase. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with it but man a $2600 impulse buy goes against my nature, specially when it's an item I'll probably have for more than 10 years. The only other time I felt like this was when I bought my car, 2000 Cougar at $24000CDN +tax. That wasn't an impulse buy but large purchases scare the **** out of me.

Currently I have a roomate, but I'll be moving out July 1st and the couch is going to be stored at my parent's house until then because of his cats. They'd tear the crap out of it.

Anyway, just needed to write this down I guess. I think I'll go have a couple of Hienies now. ;)

Pets of any kind with leather is a bad idea to me. Though, come to think about it, pets are a bad idea. I've had roommates with animals, and I will NEVER do it again. I don't want so much as a snake in the house. Hell.....even fish I'd kill off somehow.

(Here's the **** in me) As long as the style of the couch is something that you plan on staying with for a while, I don't see why you should regret it. If it's more money than you can afford for a while, maybe just look at keeping one of the pieces that you like most.

Good quality furniture is something that's a good thing to buy. I have a VERY hard time saying no to something that's well built (that doesn't sound right) and looks good.

Guess it all depends on how often your style tastes change......

Agree with Brett on the furniture quality point. Good leather, solid wood furniture that will last a long time is worth the extra coin. And how often does a guy's taste change in furniture?

Besides vinyl sounds better while you're perched on dead cow skin... :D

I'm getting a handle on it now. I think the second guessing was over the color, it's a greyish brown but the more I think about it, the better I feel about the purchase. Ideally it would have been a tan leather color but for the price it was a good compromise.

The whole quality thing is the exact reason I bought it. It's a pretty high quality set. Double stiched seams, quality leather and so on.

    Thanks for the feedback man.

Tourma, you know it's funny, the whole time I was checking out all of the couches, I thinking of what it would be like to sit back and put some good tunes on. The couch is nice and comfortable, the back isn't too high for surround either.

The Thorens hasn't come in yet, I'm expecting it early this week. What do you think of the stock tonearms in the Thorens? There's a Linn Basik tonearm on ebay, do you think it's worth swaping?

Finally a place where more coin is worth spending.......

I know the pain of spending more on new furniture. We spend 3200.00 on our sectional couch and 1600.00 on the matching chair....the god damn throw pillows where 118.00 for effin 2 of them.....she wants more........Insane????I thought so,now this is where I don't feel all the extra coin is worth it.Hell i'm all about top of the line and everything but damn furniture is killer expensive.
We are refurnishing are entire new house. This is just the very beginning for my wife to spend all my money.:supermad:

I really need some furniture, after a good night's sleep, I think it was a good purchase. Hell, at $2100, it's one hell of a good deal. I was looking to spend that much on a couch anyway. I wish I could remember the manyfacturer, I do know that they're in Toronto and hardwood frames, so that good. Don't know what my problem was.

Have you ever second guessed a large purchase?

I'll continue the Sunday afternoon rant with a situation that could only happen to the HBomb.

While my wife was pregnant I had to do much traveling during that time frame. I'm not sure if anyone experienced what I went through but it is very expensive to have a pregnant wife on her own going through the nesting phase of pregnancy.

Well we new that we were going to be moving soon and figured we would trash as much as possible and have the lightest pack job possible. I was on my second consecutive month on the road marathon and my wife was in her second trimester. Needless to say she was not very pleased with my absence plus she started going through the nesting phase and I was not there to control it. Being in and out of portable coverage meant many missed calles and lots of voicemails to retrieve when I would finally make it back to society. One evening I got back to the hotel rather late and began listening to all my messages when I received a message from a furniture dealer telling me that my delivery could be expected the next day. Thinking they probably dialed the wrong number I continued through the log quietly taking notes and of course drinking some cold ones. Finally finished up and decided to see how my little honey was doing and gave her a call to find out she just dropped 4K on a leather couch, recliner and end tables. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I begin having an anxioty attack thinking what is next when she calmy tells me its OK because she just rented a storage facility to keep it nice prior to our move.

Keep in mind that I had a house in Pittsburgh fully furnished and she had a Condo up in State College PA fully furnished and now I have a warehouse in Altoona to deal with and its filling up fast. OK... I get home and figure all is done untill the move which I'm loathing because moving sucks period and I have two houses and a storage center so I decide to take her on the road with me to try to keep her busy and hopefully minimize any more purchases. Now I'm up in Appleton Wisconsin with a pregnant wife in a Residence in when my phone rings... Honey I just found a beautifull bedroom set for the baby. I say we'll talk about it later when I was informed that she had already bought it. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell is next I'm thinking???? Big fight that night in the Inn and I'm thinking there not much more she could think of when 3 days later I found out that I am a proud owner of a new bedroom set.

I CUT UP every 1 of our credit cards, except the corporate card, and thought that would help. NOOOOO that did no damn good because now we'll just use the check book! New Towels, bedding, clothes for the baby, you name it she bought it.

Talk about getting pounded... I had a nice little pile of cash hidden that she did not know about figguring we'd use for a nice vacation or something after the baby was born but that was shot ta hell.

She went through a serious nesting phase and NOW I'm an audioholic and she can't say sheeeeit. ;)

Well, at least you got something out of it other than a wack of bills. ;)

I'm actually looking forward to checking out the couch set again tomorrow after delivery.

Good leather is worth the extra coin, the lovely Wendi and I had our leather sofa made in Hickory NC and it's worth every penny. I disagree with leather and pets not mixing as leather is very durable and I think looks better with age. The sofa was made by Sealy, all other furniture is Lane.
